What are we talking about?

It’s about how people engage, participate  and  share online..
..the experiences they leave behind
..the shared meaning they create
The applications they use…
It’s.. 4 million articles on wikipedia 100 million plus you tube videos 200 million blogs – 18 posts per second 1.5 million residents in second life 1 billion tweets on twitter
and becoming more  popular everyday
Also   In October 2007 internet visits to  social networking sites overtook web based email services Between 2007 and 2008 Facebook (UK) had a  growth of 712%  (7 million in one year) Butler Group – Enterprise Web 2.0
It’s not just a “youth” thing Facebook’s  user age profile shows that more than  50% are in the age range 35-65  with the majority of those shared almost equally between 35-44 and 45-54. However  Twitter  shows that nearly  75% for the same age range  with the majority 35-44 having over 40%. So how do you use this stuff?
BUT first… we need to accept a few things…
..it’s a SOCIAL thing
..you can’t control it
… you can’t ignore it
… it can be good and bad
What are the barriers
… Learning the tools
… Online Conversations
Social Media is not.. … something you can do without Participation. … something you can do in Disguise. … marketing, it’s about connections. The emphasis is on  ”SOCIAL”
Some pitfalls… Personal Transparent Inclusive Authentic Fun Honest Conversational By not being… Vibrant You lose credibility
