Expressing Time in verb forms
• The teacher asked the class to imagine themselves
looking at the sky on a moonlit night Then, she
asked them to write down the images that had
been formed in their minds. These were some of
the children's answers:
• 1. The clouds drift in an endless space.
• 2. The moon shines on the lakes and
rivers.
• 3. The owl hoots.
• 4. The bats fly from their caves.
• 5. The leaves of the trees rustle as the
wind passes by.
• 6. From afar, a dog howls
• They make the children's
imagination come alive. Let us
study more about these words.
Expressing Time in Verb Forms
Tense is the time expressed by the
verb.
• There are six tenses: simple
present, simple past simple future,
present perfect, past perfect, and
future perfect. (You have already
learned about the first three
tenses in your earlier grades.)
• The principal parts of a verb are
the basis upon which all these
tenses are formed.
