Shooting Permission
I have emailed the head of the sports development centres, Gaz Lee, asking for
permission to shoot within the sports hall, where the incident happened. As I
am the captain of the basketball team, I have a fairly close connection with Gaz
and should be able to shoot in the sports hall, and have done before for
previous college projects.
Derrick Rose
• Grew up in a really rough area in the south side of Chicago (dubbed a local
legend) – basketball kept him out of trouble: "I came a long way, where in my
neighbourhood you weren't really trying to better yourself. You were just trying
to survive."
• "Basketball was always my place to escape. It was peaceful when I was out
there."
• Rose was one of the most promising up-and-coming players in the NBA – rookie
of the year award, the youngest regular season MVP in league history (22 years
old), 3x All Star etc. One of the fastest, most explosively athletic players in NBA
history
• His first injury (torn ACL) side-lined him for the entire 2012-13 season - "I'm
back at zero again, and starting back over."
• Returned in the 2013-14 season and tore his right meniscus two months into
the season and subsequently missed the rest
• He was traded from the Bulls after the 2015-16 season and bounced from team
to team and general managers within the league stopped believing in him. He
lost so much athleticism – his play escalated last season (2018-19), including a
50 point (career high) game against the Utah Jazz where he was serenaded with
chants of MVP from the fans, which made him emotional
