- 1. FIELD ASSIGNMENT PART 2 By: Brittney Minor
- 2. FAULT LINE I had the opportunity to witness just what a fault can do to a road. This road is located in the foothills of Coalinga, California. This is only a minor fault line. (Not part of the San Andres Fault which is located quite near) I believe this fault line to be a Dip-Slip Fault. This means that the movement of the fault is parallel to the dip of the fault.
- 3. MECHANICAL WEATHERING I believe this to be thermal expansion. Coalinga is known for its very hot climate, and these rocks become weak, which makes the rocks brittle. Due to the brittleness of the rock, the rock will break into smaller pieces.
- 4. CHEMICAL WEATHERING This piece of pipe was found in my side yard. I believe that this is a great example of oxidation. Oxidation

- 6. CONTINENTAL SEDIMENTARY ENVIRONMENT These pictures are of the Lower Falls located in Yosemite National Park, California.
- 7. MARINE SEDIMENTARY ENVIRONMENT Pismo Beach, California Monterey Bay, California Marine Sedimentary Environments are divided into two different groups. The first is water that is no more than 200 meters (shallow marine), the second is any water deeper than 200 meters (deep marine).
- 8. TRANSITIONAL SEDIMENTARY ENVIRONMENT Pismo Beach, California Transitional Sedimentary Environments is the shore line that transitions from marine to continental environments. This is what we call beaches.
- 9. PRACTICAL USE OF GEOLOGY The pier in Pismo I believe is a practical use of geology. This allows people to be out and above the sea water below, and is quite the tourist attraction, and is great for watching surf competitions. Pismo Beach Pier
- 10. MY EXPERIENCE I have learned so much from this project; things that seemed so normal I overlooked them, are now so fascinating. I have thoroughly enjoyed this project, and wanted to share one of the pictures that I did not use in my presentation. It is of Half Dome, in Yosemite National Park. I absolutely love it there!
