- 2. Fault line
- 3. Fault line continued…The pictures above are of the fault line in Parkfield, California. This fault line is the San Andreas Fault. The San Andreas Fault is a strike-slip fault which means that the plates move from side to side past each other.The Pacific Plate is moving north and the North American Plate is moving south.This is me having fun on my mini road trip to Parkfield, CA to find the fault line!
- 4. Weathering processesThis is a pot hole. Potholes are created for various reasons but a lot of times potholes are created because of the weather like rain. The rain gets into the cracks and then when it gets cold enough it freezes and then it expands when it melts and that process over and over again creates a pothole. This is an example of Mechanical weathering. Chemically weathering was a little hard to find around here in Lemoore. I also looked on the way to Parkfield and there is nothing in the middle of nowhere. Here I think I found something that shows chemical weathering. This pipe has been rusted because of the rain and other chemicals that it has come across.
- 5. Mass wasting and erosionThis picture is an example of erosion. The weather can effect the surface. This is by the river so when it rains or when the snow melts it raises and erodes the sides. When it dries up you see even more erosion. Found this picture of a landslide. This would be the example for mass wasting. Thankfully I found this picture I took when I was going to Yosemite one time.
- 6. Sedimentary environmentsThis picture is of the beach in San Diego. Beaches are transitional sedimentary environments. This picture isn’t the exact picture that would represent a glacier but it is the closest I have that was taken in the Sequoia National Park. Glacial environments are sedimentary environments.
- 7. Practical use of geology…If you look below you will see how the guardrail in curving in that is because the bridge has shifted because of the earthquakes. These are pictures of the bridge that is built over the fault line in Parkfield, California . This bridge is a good example of geology because this bridge is built on platforms that are made to shift with the earthquakes that way it is able to uphold through them.
