Data can be defined as characteristics or information collected through observation that are usually numerical. In Uganda, there is a need for citizens and decision makers to utilize data-driven decision making to foster development. While some senior leadership in Uganda does not fully appreciate data-based decision making, relying on data is critical for development given global challenges. Uganda has updated regulations to allow government officials to use data for policy development, though data sharing and reuse policies still need to be defined. For Uganda to maximize the benefits of data-driven decision making, senior leadership must receive training in how to use data, and representatives must discuss actions needed to meet global data-driven requirements and development goals.
