My film poster follows and break conventions which I will explain: When analysing
three ‘horror’ posters (the unborn, Gothicka, the woman in black) I noticed famous
actors would be promoted at the top of these posters, as they are the main character
and there names would attract audiences.
This is known as ‘Hollywood credits’ to advertise actors, production companies and
directors.

My film didn’t have a famous character so I decided to use convention and put the
production teams name instead (as the production team is more famous than the
actor) in bold red writing. Also I put it towards the bottom not top.
All three of the posters I analysed had clear titles, plus the titles would be the biggest
text on the poster. This is because the title is the most important piece of text and
that’s the first thing the audience should realise. Conventionally all the titles were at
the bottom of the posters.

I decided to make my title clear and bold, also it is big so the audience can clearly see
it. I used red text colour as there is a link to my teaser trailer and I believe the colour
red has a sense of horror and chilling affect to it. But I challenged conventions as my
title was going to be placed at the top of the poster as I believed that it would be more
appropriate and clear, plus the audience will realise this text first.
Film posters are made to show consumers that a new moving is arriving in to cinemas
soon, so the date release is major importance all three poster I analysed had the date
releases, somewhere clear and unique.
So I placed my date release in a clear positron and made it very easy for the audience
to notice it. Most date releases are aimed towards the bottom of the poster in the
posters I looked at, but I decided to put mine the middle as it shows a sense of
importance.

I used red text again as I believe this is an important text also it gives a clear indication
when the film is out in cinema’s.
My magazine cover uses forms and conventions of real media products, as I analysed
three professional magazine covers and used the research to help me make mine. I
analysed magazine covers of Empire, Sight & Sound and Total film. I picked upon on
points on how magazine covers use there layouts and how they attract audiences.
The masthead of all three magazine covers was the biggest text on the cover, plus they
would standout due to there fonts and colours.

When making my magazine cover I acknowledged the convention of the masthead and
decided to go with ‘cooper black’ font, plus red writing. The font was big and bold so
consumers can see the name from shelves easily and the red colour is a colour which
standouts out the eye.

Also I placed it right at the top as that is the first thing the audience will pick up upon.
Main cover lines will be linked usually to the main image of the magazine cover, for
example empire had a picture of Johnny Depp from the movie ‘public enemies’, the
cover line also reads out the movie name. So my main image has my main character
from my movie so I decided to make my main cover line my movie name ‘Sinister’ as it
links to my picture and lets the audience know the name of my new movie.

The main cover lines, are smaller then the mastheads and so is mine, plus by looking
at the professional three magazine covers I noticed the main cover line has a different
colour form the masthead. So I used a white bold font for my main cover line while my
masthead is red.
