The document presents the design of an Automatic Volume Detection and Fluid Dispensing System (AVD&FDS) created by engineering students at UTSA to automate beverage dispensing. The system uses image processing to calculate the volume of a cup placed under the dispenser and then dispenses the correct amount of fluid. The design process encountered challenges with lighting, edge detection in images, and integrating a fluid valve. The final prototype includes a webcam, PC with image processing software, data acquisition device, LED lighting, valve, and water reservoir to dispense fluid.
