INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study/ Problem
■ Power automation is the act of automatically controlling the power system
via automated processes within computers and Input & Output devices.
■ Android is a popular smartphone technology, which has been developing
ample mobile applications and one of them allows remote control access.
Background of the Study/ Problem
Background of the Study/ Problem
Background of the Study/ Problem
■ Potential problems on not having home automation:
– higher chances of energy waste and misusage
– losing the tracking and monitoring ability at home
– unwanted inconveniences because of using manual access to a
complicated device installed
Background of the Study/ Problem
■ The importance of home automation focuses on:
– convenience of its users
– management and preservation is already handled
Purpose and Description
■ The idea that android technology is all around us has a direct impact to
society’s development and research improvement.
■ The purpose of this paper is to provide a possible solution to the problem by
implementing the concept of power automation.
Objectives
■ General Objective
– to develop an Android application capable of setting up connectivity of
Android modules to the microcontrollers set to the electrical circuit
system of the house to be automated through Internet connectivity
Objectives
■ Specific Objectives
– To determine what Arduino hardware to be used and how it will
connect from different switches and microcontrollers
– To determine what programming languages will be used for the
development of the mobile application
Objectives
■ Specific Objectives
– To determine what Android modules are needed to achieve connectivity
and responsiveness on both endpoints (mobile phone and
microcontroller).
– To determine the amount of time it takes for the command sent from
the mobile application with Internet connectivity to the switches to
achieve responsiveness
Scope and Limitations
■ integrating a mobile application to a home electrical system using latest
frameworks and technology
■ limited to controlling the electrical system
■ monitoring the user’s electrical consumption is not included
■ does not suggest an energy saving mode
EXISTING HOME
AUTOMATION
MOBILE APPS
Existing Home Automation Mobile
Apps
■ A ZigBee-Based Home Automation System
– Zigbee coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining the
network
– Each electronic device (i.e. Washing Machine, Television, Lamp etc.) in
the system is a Zigbee device managed by the coordinator
Existing Home Automation Mobile
Apps
■ Android Based Security and Home Automation System using Bluetooth
– To start communication with Bluetooth, Android first seeks permission
which is required for requesting a connection, accepting a connection,
and transferring data
– To connect with the external Bluetooth module, user should press
connect which will appear from the menu tab of the Android mobile
phone

DEVELOPMENT
METHOD AND
TOOLS USED
Development Method Used
■ Agile Model
– highlights the ability of reiterating tasks and promoting progression of
activities with the help of an adaptive timetable structure
– allowed us to deliver a working prototype frequently, focus on customer
interaction and regularly adapt to changes in requirements
Development Tools Used
■ React Native
– lets you build mobile apps using only JavaScript
– React Native uses the same fundamental UI building blocks as regular iOS
and Android apps
■ Arduino
– Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use
hardware and software
– Arduino can read inputs - light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a
Twitter message - and turn it into an output - activating a motor, turning
on an LED, publishing something online
Development Tools Used
■ Node.js
– Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time for
executing JavaScript code server-side

SIMULATION AND UI
Simulation and UI
The user presses a button. It will turn on the
light switch of the first floor.
Simulation and UI
The light switch of the first floor has been
turned on.
Simulation and UI
The user presses another button. It will turn on
the light switch of the second floor.
Simulation and UI
The light switch of the second floor has been
turned on.
Simulation and UI
The user presses another button. It will turn on
the desired electric fan.
Simulation and UI
The desired electric fan has been turned on.
Simulation and UI
The user presses another button. It will turn on
the desired electric fan.
Simulation and UI
The desired electric fan has been turned on.
Simulation and UI
The current statuses are shown, all of them are
turned off. To turn a switch on, just press the
button of the switch again on the desired area.
Simulation and UI
As the user presses the button again, the status
of the switch is being reflected and syncs with
the application.
The button represents the action to be
performed.
In this figure, the button that was pressed is on
the First Floor section.
Simulation and UI
This screen shows up when there is no
connection from the hardware to the server.
