Firefox OS is an open source mobile operating system developed by Mozilla that is based on Linux and powered by Mozilla's Gecko technology. It allows apps to be built using the same tools and languages as the desktop web, including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. The OS is designed to be simple to create apps for, as it treats the phone interface like a web browser, and apps do not need to be downloaded but can run through the web cache.
