Force Field Analysis There are forces that facilitate and forces that can impede workforce planning It is imperative that you determine these forces at the beginning of your plan so that you can leverage the compelling forces and mitigate the restraining forces
Force Field Analysis Example RESTRAINING FORCES Workforce planning is not a top priority Budget constraints Several other major projects occurring at the same time COMPELLING FORCES 30% of workforce can retire in 5 years A new department initiative will require additional resources Effective training programs that can be used in support of Workforce/Succession Planning
The Elephant in the Room Major programs often face issues about which we are concerned but not comfortable discussing It is like the elephant in the room, even if you never discuss it, everyone knows it is there
Your Force Field Analysis Using the template in the handout, think about what can get in the way and what could assist  your Workforce Planning Program  Have a discussion regarding the items that could get in the way of your plan  We will have a large group discussion to capture this information for the HR Modernization effort
Next Steps Have a discussion with your neighbors regarding what next steps  Complete the “Next Steps” handout for future use
