- 4. Cost of running an FTC Team • Team formation: Community teams!! Everyone needs to get involved. • FTC teams are either community teams, or sponsored by schools. • There are about 170 teams in Virginia alone! Fastest growing program in FIRST • Team size is about 7-10, max of 15 this year. • Need 2 coaches to register, both willing to under background checks • Registration $275 - Rookie teams graduation from FLL can get this waived, but apply soon! • Total Cost: FTC Costs $2000+ to $4000 to build and compete, but FTC offsets these costs somewhat • Kit ( w or w/o NXT: you can re-use your NXT and sensors from FLL, but not EV3) • Additional parts/supplies ( motors, u-channels, nuts and bolts, sensors etc): 0 to $1000+ • 12x12 Field setup; $400-$600 • T-shirts: $100 to $300 • Tools ( to work with metal, plexiglass etc) $100 - $1500 • Travel • Funding is through an affiliated non-profit

FTC Season: A walk through • Kickoff: Starts in September with game release on 6th September, and ends with Worlds in April • Virginia FIRST hosted a kickoff with various workshops, access to champion teams and referees on September 27th • Season • Registration: Get the kit • order the field • Build the robot • program it • Do CAD if you are upto it • Reach out to engineering mentors • Build your robot • Prepare for Judging, H/w and S/w inspection • Qualifiers: December 7 through Jan 31: you can participate in more than 1 qualifier • State Championships: Feb 28 • Super-Regionals March, Worlds in April • Worlds April
