PETALINGJAYA SS2 • one of the most established commercial hubs • largest district of Petaling Jaya • commercial centre = focal point • one of the earliest ‘modern’ housing development • initially planned to support Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur • developed by the British in 1950s • carved out of a jungle (part of Effingham Estate) • Sir Gerald Templer planned for PJ to be a satellite town • admin by KL District Officer till end 1953 • 1959: head of admin by Abdul Aziz Haji Mohd Ali • 1972: ceased to be part of KL, placed under Selangor instead
