- 2. Avatar & Lucy What is movie genre and what is science fiction? Movie genre is general term that used to breakdown into different catergories such as documentary, thriller, romance, comedy, action, fantasy and so on. Science fiction is a genre of fiction that explores our imagination and the development with science and technology. It is quite broad category in genres that crossingover with comedy, romance, adventures, actions and others. The setting of science fiction stories mostly will occur in the future, in galaxy of universe or in present. I love watching movie, and my favourite genre movie is science fiction. Especially when I'm watching sci-fi movies, it helps me to release my stress from the lots of tons assignments and also it brings me into the world of fantasy so called the world of imaginary where everything is on the far side of my imaginations. It can be in the world of fantasy, the world in space or even the world with full technologies. I had watched two sci-fi movies recently which are Avatar(2009) and Lucy(2014). I found out that this two movies are interesting in their storylines, settings and endings. About the storyline of Avatar, it is about Jake Sully's brother, Tom Sully was killed by a thief who attempted to steal his wallet. Thus, Jake decided to takeover his brother's mission at another planet which named Pandora. Jake learns to corporate the native humanoid of ''Navi'' or Avatar to exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his leg. His colonel, Miles Quaritc aim to mine Pandora's woodland valuable minerals. In contrast, its a storyline of Lucy Miller it is about a woman who had accidentally implant a packet of blue crystal drug which named CPH4 in her abdomen. Firstly, she visited taiwan with her week-long boyfriend, Richard. Richard tricked Lucy to deliver a mysterious briefcase to a business man, Mr.Jang, a Korean business man. She was caught up and turned up to drug mule. As the drug leaking into Lucy's system her body began to change and she was amazed it. She started to do something interesting. The differences between Avatar and Lucy though, is the setting. Avatar this movie sets in year 2154 of Pandora. Avatar takes place on
- 3. Pandora, a fictional planet like moon in the universe of the star system ,a planet where has treasure trove with natural resources and minerals. The background of the movies are in high definition of blue-ray and used animated softwares programs which designed by professional illustrators team. By using the programs, the designers can make the background into more realistic. For example, the “Hallelujah Mountain” known as floating mountain which likely as floating island as that circulates in magnetic current like icebergs at seas, “The tree of souls” which capability to connect to human nervous system, “The tree of voices” which could be heard through neural queue contact with the trees and so on. The movie of Lucy's setting mostly in the cities such as Taiwan, France and Germany. When she realized that her abdomen was implant with blue crytal drug. She can sensed everythings such as she can hear from the outsiders conversation neither phone or chattings, reads the different language signs, manipulate the electronics such as she can call professor without using a phone and so on. Last and the most interesting differences is the ending part of the movies. The ending of the Avatar, it happens when Jake began to build the bond relationship with the ''Navi'' he fell in love with the beautiful alien which named as Neytiri. The Colonel was mad and he used his tactics to attack them. Lastly, the Navi of Pandora had won the battle. In the ending of Lucy, it happens when Lucy's body dissapeared and lefted her clothes behind when Mr. Jang wanted to shoot her. A French policeman, Del Rino shooted Mr. Jang to death. There's a black matter in the room disapears and morphs into flash drive that land's in Norman's hand.Del Rino asked where she is and herself answered on his phone said that ''I'm everywhere''. Conclusion, these movies of Avatar and Lucy are science fiction movies but their storylines, settings and endings are totally different. I enjoyed the movies very much even though I had watched several times. This is due to the story of the movies are interesting it made me remembered vividly.
