FORCE 14 – 26 October 2012

From the Desk of the Reserve FORCE Master Chief:

Greetings, hope all has been well with you all since our last talk. I have been
able to do what I like best in this job over the last couple of weeks, and that is
to go out and meet you on the Deckplates. I am always impressed by the
quality of our Sailors, the enthusiasm and pride they display to their
Commands and Communities. October 13th marked the 237th Birthday of the
Navy and although that may sound old, we are just hitting our stride! It is the
commitment of our Citizen Sailors and their families that help make our Navy
the Best in the world!

Out and About:

On the evening of 13 October, I had the honor to speak at Navy Ball in Phoenix
AZ. Over 280 Active, Reserve and Retired Sailors and their families were in
attendance; it was a great way to celebrate our birthday! Thank you to all
who had a hand in making that night a huge success!

That morning I made my first visit to NOSC Phoenix, what a beautiful new
building, but it was the attitude of the Sailors that made it special. In the
town hall I met some great Sailors and had a lot of very good questions
directed my way, for example, ET2 Gody, asked “what do you do when the
NOSC notifies you that they placed you in the Ready Mob Pool?” Specifically,
when are you required to notify your employer that you may be mobilized?
The answer is when you receive your six month notification to deploy. Having
six month notice provides ample time to let your employer know the exact
date of your departure, and also allows you time to get your personal matters
in order. Your Command will conduct a Pre-deployment brief that covers all
the much needed and required information. Contact your Command Individual
Augmentee Coordinator (CIAC) for assistance.

Another great question was from EO1 Honer, who asked: “With rating
reductions happening across the board, what options are there for cross-
rating?” The answer is Fleet Ride. With Fleet Ride, once you’re in the system,
you have the ability to see what other rates you qualify for and then are able
to apply for them. Fleet Ride provides our Selected Reserve Sailors the chance
to see what is the best choice for their careers, whether it is to re-enlist in
rate, cross rate, or even to go back to Active duty, it is a valuable on line
career management tool that benefits both the member and the Navy.
FORCE 14 – 26 October 2012
