Ford has launched the Ford VCM IDS diagnostic tool which integrates enhanced WDS software to run on a laptop along with the Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and new Vehicle Measurement Module (VMM) for diagnosing Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles. The Ford VCM IDS package replaces the Worldwide Diagnostic System and allows dealership technicians to diagnose and service vehicles through the identification of diagnostic trouble codes, data logging, module configuration, and more. It will be the only authorized diagnostic equipment for complete coverage of current and future Ford vehicles in North America.

The FORD VCM and VMM connect to the laptop through the Ethernet-USB Adapter Cable (H406/H416). Note that the application will detect the interface device that is connected to the laptop. Indicator icons will appear at the bottom right-hand corner of the IDS screen when the FORD VCM and/or VMM are connected. FORD VCM IDS Information: FORD VCM IDS Software Version: 1. FORD VCM IDS software version for Ford: IDS V77; 2. VCM software version for Land rover: V128; Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS): The Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) will be the only equipment that provides complete diagnostic coverage of current and future Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles in North America. The Ford VCM IDS package replaces the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS). The Ford VCM IDS application will perform the identical functions of the WDS and allows dealership technicians to diagnose and service Ford, Lincoln, Mercury vehicles. As the new diagnostic tool, IDS will be required to perform diagnostics on future model year vehicles. One FordVCM IDS Package is recommended for each WDS in the dealership.
