- 2. John Hancock John Hancock was a congragationalist. As a congregationalist he based the organization of church government on the bible’s foundation .
- 3. John Hancock John Hancock was born January 23, 1737. According to the old style calendar in use at that time, he was born on the 12th of January. He died on October 8th, 1793.
- 4. John Hancock Hancock graduated from Boston Latin Scool in 1750. He then graduated from Harvard University in 1754 with a bachelors degree. He went to work for his uncle’s import/export firm after the French and Indian War.
- 5. John Hancock John Hancock eventually became a partner at his uncle’s firm. When his uncle died he inherited the business , making him one of the wealthiest men in the world.
- 6. John Hancock Hancock was elected one of Boston’s five selectmen in march of 1765. He was a member of the Massachusetts General Court in 1766.
- 7. John Hancock He was president of the first and second Provincial Congresses in 1774 and 1775. He served as president of the Continental Congress from May of 1775 to October 1777. Hancock became chairman of the Boston Town Committee in 1770.

I chose this quote because I believe it shows he was proud to state his position no matter what the consequences.

He was a good business man, which in turn can make a good leader. He had experience in dealing with people and money and was able to make decisions based on the people affected.

We shall lay them down when hostilities shall cease on the part of the agressors, and all danger of their being renewed shall be removed, and not before.” I chose this quote because it shows England that the colonies wont give in to them. It show the determination and will of our founders. It also shows the devotion that John Hancock had for the colonies. They will fight for what they believe until there is no more reason to fight.

I chose this qoute because it shows that Hancock believed that politicians with a Christian foundation made better political and military decisions. He believes that Christianity led to higher moral standards and values, which are vital when making important decisions.
- 13. Patrick Henry Patrick Henry was born May 25th, 1736 in Studley, Virginia. He died June 6th, 1799 in Red Hill, Virginia. He was a Christian. He went to an Anglican church but respected all denomonations.
- 14. Patrick Henry Patrick was one of the most famous orators of his time. Before he became an orator he attempted storekeeping and farming, but failed. He soon realized he had a gift for public speaking.
- 15. Patrick Henry Henry was admitted to the bar in 1760, and he became a very successful lawyer. In 1763 he became famous for the Parson’s Cause Trial. He became a member of the House of Burgesses in 1765.
- 16. Patrick Henry Henry attended the first and second continental congress. He became a wartime governor of Virginia from 1776 through 1779 . Patrick Henry was admitted to practice law before the general court in 1769.

He believed that all must unite to achieve independence. Henry felt that all states must come together for the sake of freedom. "I am not a Virginian, but an American.”

This shows that Henry understood that if we continue to make the same mistakes, we will continue to face the same problems. He wanted to start the new country by looking toward the future while learning from the past. “ I know no way of judging the future but by the past.”
- 20. Patrick Henry “ Give me liberty or give me death.” This is one of the most famous quotes in the history of our country. I believe Henry meant that freedom was the ultimate goal. He would rather face death than be controlled by England. Freedom from “taxation without representation” was the cornerstone of what he believed. Henry knew that many good people would die fighting for our independence.
- 21. Patrick Henry: Quotes “ I like dreams of the future better than the history of the past.” Henry believed that the past is the past and cannot be changed. However, the future can be shaped by decisions made today. This is important because it shows that Henry was thinking ahead rather than living in the past. Forward thinking helped shape our country.
