Educational technology refers to using technology tools in education to enhance the teaching and learning process. It can be considered both an academic field studying learning and teaching, as well as the practical use of technology in classrooms. While definitions vary, educational technology generally focuses on information and communication technologies to improve instruction. It aims to make learning more engaging, individualized, effective, and productive for students through tools like broadband connectivity. The use of technology in schools can also help motivate students and save costs compared to traditional methods.
FSE 3 (TECHNOLOGY IN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT)
- 1. Educational technology, sometimes shortened to EduTech or EdTech, is a wide field. Therefore, one can find many definitions, some of which are conflicting.
- 2. Educational technology as an academic field can be considered either as a design science or as a collection of different research interests addressing fundamental issues of learning, teaching and social organization. Educational technology as practice refers to any form of teaching and learning that makes use of technology.
- 3. International Technology Education Association define EDTECH as: Teaches with technology (uses technology as a tool)
- 4. Primarily concerned with the narrow spectrum of information and communication technologies Primary goal: To enhance the teaching and learning process
- 5. ENGAGING AND INDIVIDUALIZED -Schools should change learning to it’s higher standard. TO MEASURE -Schools should measure student progress against college and career ready standards and access real- time data that will guide learning along the way.
- 6. TO BE EFFECTIVE - Schools should connect teachers to tools and individuals who can help them become effective. TO PROVIDE -Schools should provide broadband connectivity for students, no matter where they are. TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE -Schools should become more productive, improve student learning and manage costs through technology.
- 7. IMPORTANCE OF EDTECH MOTIVATION -nowadays we are technologically advance, students will be more motivated when using different technologies in teaching. SAVINGS -The savings which result from using technology can come in many facets. On a basic level technology can replace infrastructure. Desks, books, lab equipment and other items are a heavy cost burden on schools everywhere. Technology and devices can help save on these costs. In addition geographically isolated or economically disadvantaged children can benefit from access to online software or resources which would be cost prohibitive without technology.
- 8. ‘’DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE IN EDTECH’’ EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY The combination of the processes and tools in addressing educational needs and problems, with an emphasis on applying the most current tools: computers and their related technologies
- 9. Historical Perspectives Important to examine the four different historical perspectives on these processes and tools, each of which has helped to shape current practices in the field: 1. Media and Audiovisual Communications 2. Instructional Systems 3. Vocational Training (Technology Education) 4. Computer Systems
- 10. 3. Technology as Vocational Training Vocational Training is another view of educational technology. It sees technology as a tool used in business and industry called technology education. It derived from trainers and vocational educators in the 1980’s. Key words: Job skills, work world, business/industry Examples: Robotics, manufacturing systems, and computer-assisted design
