LEARNING COMPETENCIES
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. determine the verbal and nonverbal cues that a
speaker uses in order to achieve a purpose;
2. identify the purpose in a sample speaking engagement;
3. utilize knowledge on the functions of communication
in analyzing various communication situations;
4. examine sample oral communication activities;
5. evaluate the effectiveness of an oral communication
activity; and
6. recognize the importance of different communicative
functions in our daily life.

FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION
• CONTROL AND REGULATION – This
function involves using communication to
manage behavior, whether it's through
formal rules and directives or informal
cues and feedback. Examples include
giving instructions, setting expectations,
or providing feedback on performance.
FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION
• SOCIAL INTERACTION – Communication is
crucial for building and maintaining
relationships, fostering social bonds, and
creating a sense of community. This
includes greetings, casual conversation,
and expressing interest in others.
FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION
• MOTIVATION - Communication can be
used to inspire, encourage, and persuade
others to take action or change their
attitudes or behaviors. This can involve
providing positive reinforcement, setting
goals, or outlining the benefits of a
particular course of action.

• EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION -
Communication allows individuals to
express their feelings, both positive and
negative, and to connect with others on
an emotional level. This can include
sharing joy, sadness, frustration, or any
other emotion.

• INFORMATION DISSEMINATION- This
function involves sharing knowledge,
facts, and data with others, whether it's
to inform, educate, or raise awareness.
