QUARTER 1 - MODULE 4:
•Discuss the 5 functions of communication;
•Identify the speakers purpose(s);
•use verbal and non verbal cues that each
speaker uses to achieve communication
purpose;

COMMUNICATION
FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION
Example: You shouldn’t use your cellphone
inside the classroom.
1.CONTROL OR REGULATION- Communication
functions to control behavior. Every organization
has its regulations and these regulations are
communicated to all members in various ways.
2. SOCIAL INTERACTION-
refers to the way people act and react to one another in
daily life. It includes all kinds of communication and
relationships between individuals or groups, such as
talking, working together, playing, helping, or even
arguing.
Example: Talking to your friends during lunch.
3. MOTIVATION-Communication motivates or
encourages people to live better.Motivation is
either internal or external.
•INTERNAL- Comes from whithin. It is someting personal.
•EXTERNAL- emanates from the outside or from people
surrounding him.
EXAMPLE OF INTERNAL MOTIVATION-
A student is motivated to study hard because of
his/her desire to graduate with honors.
EXTERNAL MOTIVATION-
A student is motivated to study hard becaues of
his/her father’s promise to give him /her an
expensive car once he/she graduates with
honors.
4.EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION-Communication
facilitates people's expression of
their feelings and emotions.
Example: I’m so happy and proud when I receive
my award in front of everyone.
5.INFORMATION-
Communication functions to convey information.
Many events or incidents happen everyday. These
occurrences affect people so they have to be
informed.
Example: You can find my classroom in the
front of principal office.
