It was established in 1957 and aims to support areas like agriculture, animal sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering, mathematics, medicine, plant sciences, and physics. The number of PASTIC users has grown significantly over time as internet access has expanded.

- 9. Pakistan National Scientific & Technical Documentation Centre (PANSDOC) was established under PCSIR in 1957 by UNESCO at Karachi. In 1974 PANSDOC was transferred to Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Islamabad and was renamed as Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre (PASTIC).
