 GIS Database Creation
 Development of Interactive Web Map (on City’s
website)
‒ Ability to generate maps (Citizens & Staff)
‒ Keep track of zoning changes and SUPs
‒ Provide accurate data (City’s utility infrastructure)
‒ Staff Training Completed
 Will be implemented on the City’s Website and open
to the public by the end of June.
2017 - 2018 SAP Summary

• Broadway Re-design (street cross sections)
 TxDOT & CoAH Joint Project for MPO funding
‒ Reduce number of lanes, widen sidewalks, add on-
street parking, planting strips, street trees, address
drainage, and bury utilities.
‒ Worked with consultant and utilized GIS data to
calculate properties removed from the floodplain. Was
utilized for Economic Development study as part of the
MPO funding application.
 Status
‒ Project submitted to MPO and approved for funding.

 Sign Regulations – In Progress
 Updated sign regulations
 Removed vague, inconsistent, and conflicting
sections of the code
 Provided a provision for “re-facing” of signs to be
approved by staff and waive requirement for ARB
approval
 “Re-facing” is when a new tenant switches out the
name on an existing sign.

 Allowed for some window signage.
 Gave more direct sizes, dimensions, and
guidelines for citizens to follow.
 Held public workshops to allow citizen and
business owners the opportunity to
comment and provide feedback.
 Enforcement & Education of new regs will
be ongoing into next year.

 Commercial District Amendments &
Residential Design Standards (SF-A/B)
 Continuation of revisions based on the following:
‒ monitoring of developments for unintended consequences
‒ proactive review of building/development trends
‒ proactive changes based on re-occurring issues

 Review sections of Code for vague,
inconsistent, and conflicting sections of code
‒ Chapter 17 (Subdivisions) review of
regulations to ensure they match with current
state law
‒ Chapter 5 (Building & Drainage) review to
ensure drainage & run-off language is
adequately protecting adjacent land owners.

application, review, and permitting

more “user friendly”

• Beautify Gateway Areas Into the City
 Utilize comprehensive plan funds to:
‒ address entrances to the city
‒ plant new trees and tree removal of unwanted species (lower Broadway or
other areas to be determined)
 Areas for beautification:
‒ Basse Rd and Jones Maltsberger
‒ Burr Rd and Broadway
‒ Burr Rd and N New Braunfels
‒ Broadway at the North end
‒ Austin Highway at N New Braunfels

engineers, City Staff, others in order to
help achieve funding & implementation
goals.

• Strategic Economic Development Plan /
Marketing
 Consider a Branding/Marketing Campaign?
‒ Work in conjunction with Branding campaign to
create brochures, handouts, and aggressively
market the City.
‒ Utilize the City’s new GIS capabilities to compile
demographics, statistics, vacant lots, and utility
infrastructure to help market the city to prospective
businesses.
