GAP 3 is an inspection approach used to assess the residual life of large generators. It involves conducting standard and special electrical tests and inspections on the stator and rotor windings and accessories while the machine is in an assembled condition with some access panels removed. The methodology provides condition assessments of the stator, rotor, and overall generator along with expected downtime of 5-7 days to complete the process. A final report is generated with inspection findings, photographs, test plots, and a maintenance schedule.
