Bridging the gap between the designers vision and the manufacturers approachWhat makes us different?
By approaching each project individually andestablishing our role before the projectbegins, we meet your specific requirementsand provide unmatched value.
ApproachIdentify our services that are most appropriately matched to your project.
Target areas where we can add the most value, while leaving the other aspects of the project in your expert hands, or the hands of one of our strategic partners.
Plan where we fit into the process and also how we will effectively transition the program back into your hands.
Get up to speed on the program requirements and adapt to your organization quickly and efficiently.
Work collaboratively with our local and global communities of product development professionals.
Exit the program gracefully when our services are no longer required.Experience40 years of combined experience assisting a wide range of clients, from small start ups to fortune 500 companies
ToolsCADWe work primarily in Pro/Engineer Wildfire (Wildfire 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0). We also have experience using SolidWorks and can support this platform, if required.PrototypingWe work with outside vendors for rapid prototypes (metal, plastic, castings, etc.), and through our network of prototype vendors can generally turn around rapid prototyping parts in as little as a few days.AnalysisWe use Pro/Mechanica for structural analysis and Pro/Engineer Mechanism Dynamics to analyze the motion of moving components. As required, we work with several outside labs for mechanical testing (drop, vibration, HALT, etc.). Partners at Pump have been directly involved in qualifying products per mechanical and environmental specifications, including generating test plans and hands-on experience in the test lab.Program ManagementWe begin each program (in the quoting phase) by building a comprehensive Gantt chart in Microsoft Project. This allows us to readily communicate our assumptions regarding scheduling and resourcing with our clients. Throughout the project we use the Gantt chart to evaluate progress and alert the team (internal and external) to critical milestones, schedule progress, and potential pitfalls.

Electronics Packaging ExamplesSonic Golf - System 1: Developed a club insert and small, wireless electronic receiver that converts the rhythm of a golf swing, via accelerometers within the club insert, into a sound generated by the receiver. The tight constraints inside golf club shafts and high impact forces seen during a swing presented a challenging environment for electronics packaging, protection, and sealing. Our design solutions were suitable for golf professionals, including endorsements by Vijay Singh who trains with Sonic Golf. Dell Notebooks: Worked with the Dell industrial design group on multiple Dell notebook platforms to integrate new industrial design languages into both existing and future internal electrical components. Also collaborated with Dell mechanical engineering teams to innovate complex mechanisms, improve designs for manufacturing, and cost reduce assemblies. Oakley - Thump Sunglasses (generation 2 &3): Worked on the speaker boom assembly and mechanism to handle cable routing and fit adjustment. Also modified the flex assembly for various geometries.**Motion Computing: Worked with a Contract manufacturer to solve issues of antenna placement, various enclosure touch solutions, and battery module designs for two of Motion’s touch-screen tablets (one standard and one small form factor).**Symbol/Motorola: Worked on numerous rugged, handheld mobile devices & accessories that typically packaged shock-mounted, fully functioning mobile PC electronics, LCD screens, wireless (WAN/LAN) antennas, keypads, and barcode/imaging scanners.**Compaq Notebooks: One partner at Pump previously worked in the corporate notebook division of Compaq Computers (now HP) for over 3 years, designing notebook components and accessories.**National Instruments: One partner at Pump previously worked in the distributed I/O and modular instruments groups at National Instruments. Specifically designing controllers for Compact FieldPoint and PXI instruments such as the PXI digitizers.** ** Experience gained prior to employment at Pump Studios
