 Q&A
How many satellites are in Earth orbit?
According to United Nations Office for Outer Space
Affairs, there were 4987 satellites orbiting the
planet at the start of the year.
According to the data by Union of Concerned Scientists (USC),
1957 satellites were operational in November 2018.

 Global (provides a series of bio-geophysical products on the
status and evolution of the land surface)
 Pan- European (provides information about the land cover
and land use and their changes)
 Local (focuses on different hotspots, i.e. areas with specific
environmental challenges

the project was
to develop an
algorithm that
identifies the
most suitable
area for
afforestation.
