Cold Chain Monitoring:
Ensuring Food Safety
Laird Confidential9
The Need for Wireless
in Cold Chain Monitoring
Monitoring and controlling food storage at all stages
of the cold chain is critical. Automation of monitoring,
including data logging and alerting, leads to:
• Reduced potential for human error, increased accuracy
• Simplified and automated compliance recording
• Reduced food waste
• Increased productivity and operational efficiency
• Protection of your brand
• Your global data set and sensor base being centralized
• Enhanced food safety
Simply Put – Food Safety and Operational Efficiency
Laird Confidential10
Why LoRaWAN for
Cold Chain Monitoring?
• Restaurants and food prep areas are not universal
– Multi-floor, old/new construction materials, differing
layouts and kitchens generally in the ‘back/bowels’
– Kitchens packed with large metal appliances (fridges,
freezers, industrial ovens, smokers, fryers, etc.)
• Sensors need placing in these environments, presenting
severe challenges for wireless connectivity
• The wireless sensors need to be battery powered to simplify,
and ease installation
• Once fitted the batteries need to last multi years before
replacement for low cost maintenance
• Number of sensors required changes with each location – all
needing to send their data through harsh RF environments,
robustly and reliably
• Finally to ensure automated compliance logging and employee
alerting, all this data needs to be bridged smoothly through to
cloud-based server solutions.
LoRaWAN delivers
all of this and more!
