Editor's Notes

  • #4: Catchy title with a descriptive sub title - A catchy title is fun but you still need to tell people what it is about in the title as in the giant list of options at a conference you need to be able to make Succinct and understandable If you are writing your paper after the abstract and it is just an exploration of an ideachances are it will change in the evolution of the paper or presentation but try to stick with what you said you were going to do Make your points clearly – don’t waffle on too much Who is your target audience? - managers, new librarians, cataloguers or people with an interest in developing web resources Be honest/vague is not clever
  • #6: - this is what sits behind your presentation and the thing that people will go hunting for to dig out the detail or catch the things they missed in the presentation.  It will be searchable possibly and recommended for others to read. Filling in the sandwich – this is the meaty stuff that people will go to for clarification after your presentation. Keep the detail in here. Make it useful - detail and good referencing/sources Style – formal/non formal – my experience has been to supply formal papers but there might be an option. Quality grammar and syntax – people might end up studying your work and quoting you so make it good, perfect……
  • #8: Delivery – chose a style that really suits you – ensure you have the equipment you need. become familiar with the technology, lights etc Practice is in front of some colleagues to test the timing and flow.  Get some feedback and fix it then leave it. Learn it. – Story of ALIA Use the 'notes' part of the power point and put bullets of the main points Play to your strengths, - if you are funny be funny, if you are clever be clever Have a friend or supporter in the audience if you can Don't talk too fast and pause for photos - people love photos Allow for question - often people come up to you afterwards to talk to you.
