The stats are out. You already know that YouTube (not
Facebook) is now the largest social network… and the only
search engine larger than YouTube is Big G (a.k.a Google).
YouTube is a GARGANTUAN source of free targeted traffic IF
you know how to harness it. And everyone knows that video
traffic converts lookers into buyers like nothing else!
The good news is… most online entrepreneurs have either
ignored YouTube, abandoned it or haven’t figured it out yet.
This leaves YouTube wide open… and a huge opportunity for
those in-the-know to get the lion’s share of traffic in their niche
markets. I want YOU to be one of those people who
dominates YouTube.
Unlike Google, you don’t need a PHD in “Geek” to understand
how to get traffic from YouTube. It’s way easier than that. Let
me show you.
In this guide (and the follow up content I will email you), we are
going to dive into YouTube keyword selection, competitive
analysis & on-page optimization so that you can be the 800
pound gorilla on YouTube within your chosen market(s)!
This is going to be fun! So, let’s jump in and get started…
How To Get Free

From YouTube& Google

Traffic & LEADS

k Exploring The Google Keyword Planner
I know there are dozens of fancy keyword tools out there, but I
always go back to the good ol’ Google Keyword Planner. It’s
powerful, current and of course… FREE!
Once you have a niche (or two) identified and you want to get
some free YouTube traffic, here’s what you do…
l Step 1: Login to Your AdWords Account
Login to your Google AdWords account and then under the
top Tools menu, go to the Keyword Planner as shown here…
Then, once the Keyword Planner opens up, select this option…

{ Step 2: Type in a Seed Keyword Phrase
As a starting point, type in a seed keyword that’s not too
specific.
Too specific = photoshop tutorials for beginners
Just right = photoshop tutorials
Also, don’t type in a keyword that too generic like: photoshop
Next, click the “Get Ideas” button and let Google do it’s thang
to go get you some tasty keywords!

v Step 3: Find The Sweetspot
Most people pick keywords that are just waaaaay too
competitive. Even though it’s much easier for you to rank high
on YouTube than Google, you still need to avoid heavy
competition and look for more longtail keywords.
Here’s a checklist of criteria that you should be looking for
when researching target keywords using Google’s KP…
Stick to keywords with…
400 (low) to around 20,000 (high) average monthly
search volume
Low-Medium competition
> $0 bid price
‘Video keywords’ preferred
I made the font color green, because finding those keywords
is where the easy traffic is on YouTube (and often Google)…
and where there’s traffic, there’s money to be made!
By the way…. If you are wondering what a “video keyword” is,
keep reading. Let me start by saying, video keywords are
pure…
Awesome
Sauce!

S Step 4: Sort-n-Purge Your Keyword List
When I say “Sort-n-purge”, here’s what I mean... When the
Google KP returns all the related keywords for your seed
keyword, it’s a bit of a mess.
For example… the seed keyword “photoshop tutorials” (typed
into GKP without using quotation marks) gives us 801
keywords back. Yes, that’s a lot of keywords. But, about
70%-90% of them are junk and not for our needs on YouTube.
Let me explain…
The first thing you want to do is sort the “Avg. monthly
searches” column (in descending order) as shown here…
As you can see, the biggest keyword Google gave us is
“photoshop”. No surprise there. But also, that keyword is
waaay too competitive and not specific enough to give us
highly-targeted, responsive YouTube traffic that we can
convert into buyers.

SSoo hheerree’’ss wwhhaatt yyoouu ddoo……
Scroll through that list and find the spot where the Avg
monthly search volume is around 20,000 or less.
In this example, it’s about right here on Page 2…
You also want to look for keywords with Low to Medium
competition and a bid price of more than $0.00 (ideally 50
cents or more). A higher bid price means that people are
already paying to advertise for that keyword.
DDiinngg,, ddiinngg,, ddiinngg!!
That’s a good thing because you know the traffic converts.
But, lucky for you… you won’t be paying a penny for it!
Using our example here of “photoshop tutorials”, I see a
bunch of keywords that already look promising…

As you can see below, keywords like “adobe photoshop
online” are not really what we are after. We want keywords
only relate to photoshop tutorials, learning photoshop, how to
use photoshop, etc.
rTip: Don’t forget about the searcher’s intent. What does
that mean? When someone searches for something generic
like “photoshop cs5”, what is their intent? Are they…
… looking to buy photoshop cs5?
… looking for photoshop cs5 reviews?
… looking for a photoshop cs5 download link?
… looking for photoshop cs5 support?
… looking for adobe’s official photoshop cs5 website?
… looking for more information about photoshop cs5?
You don’t really know for sure, right?
That’s why it’s better to choose keywords that are more
targeted towards a specific intent or need – often called buyer
keywords. For example, when someone types in “photoshop
tutorials” we know that they want lessons, videos, instructions
and help with improving their Photoshop skills.

When someone types in the word “review” after a product
name, we know that they are considering a purchase.
When someone types in “how to” before a keyword like
“photoshop pictures”, we know what their intention is. Keep
this in mind as you gather your list of target keywords.
As you scroll through your keyword list, to add a keyword to
your shortlist, press the “arrow” button to the right of each
desired keyword as shown here…
After going through the above steps and following the criteria,
I managed to find 68 potential target keywords for a new
YouTube video related to photoshop tutorials…
If this was 2006… 68 keywords would not be enough.
However, since you are not creating a massive website with
2,000 individual web (…errrr spam) pages here, you don’t
need hundreds or thousands of keywords. What a relief, right?

In fact, when targeting keywords for YouTube (and video
keywords on Google), less is more. When doing your keyword
research following the steps outlined above, you will not get
thousands of target keywords.
U Your Goal: Use the criteria above and find a list of 20-100
good potential target keywords using the Google Keyword
Planner.
k Step 5: BONUS KEYWORDS…
Get additional keywords using YouTube’s autocomplete
keyword search…
Since we are trying to find the best keywords to target on
YouTube, listen to YouTube. Makes sense, right?
Just head on over the YouTube.com and type in your seed
keyphrase followed by space a… then space b… and repeat
this process for all letters a-z.

The first autocomplete keyword shown is the most important
(that’s why it’s at the top of the list). So, copy down the top
keyword or two for each of those a-z searches.
W Next Step: Check Google.com and identify & isolate the
“video keywords”.
If you recall earlier… I mentioned something called a “video
keyword”. This is a keyword where Google.com already ranks
YouTube videos on the first page of search results.
It is way, way easier for you to… rank your
YouTube video on page 1 of Google when there are already
videos there on page 1.
Also, it is way, way easier for you to… rank
your YouTube video on page 1 of Google rather than your
webpage, blog post, press release, wiki… or whatever.
If you get top rankings on YouTube AND Google, it’s like a
double rainbow of awesomeness! That’s your ultimate goal.
You will get A LOT more traffic by ranking on both YT & G.
Next… take a list of your top video target keywords and query
them on Google to find video keywords. I did some quick
Google searches and found these gems…
photoshop for beginners… 3 YT videos on page 1 of Google
photoshop cs3 tutorial… 2 YT videos on page 1 of Google
photoshop drawing tutorials… 2 YT videos on page 1 of Google
photoshop signature tutorials… 2 YT videos on page 1 of Google
For example, there are 3 YouTube videos ranked on Page 1 of

Google for the keyphrase: photoshop tutorials for beginners
One last thing to check… let’s see what the competition is like
on Google versus YouTube. To do that, I use an old SEO trick
to see our true (optimized) competition using an allintitle
search like this…
… and on YouTube…

As you can see, there are 2,230 highly-optimized pages on
Google that contain “photoshop tutorials for beginners” in the
page title… but only 78 videos that we are competing with on
YouTube. I like those odds, how about you? Can you say…
totally
tube-ular!
(Might be dating myself with that comment. Under 30? Just move on…)
But, don’t get too excited just yet. We still have a few more
things to check on YouTube before we select this as one of
our best 4-10 video target keywords for YouTube.
Note: When I see old, poorly optimized videos (like those
shown above) with high rankings on Google, I get pumped
because there’s a good chance I can take over those rankings
with my YT vids. J
Why?… How do I know? (I’ll save that chat for next time)
# In my next video…
I will share with you:

An amazing (and ultra-fancy I might add) “Easy-Rank
Checklist”. This will be your YouTube
traffic roadmap…
How to find “Tube Triad” keywords and
why they are the quickest-path to you
getting free traffic from YouTube
The exact logic and process I use to
scope out the competition on YouTube
to sniff out Easy-Rank Opportunities
(EPO’s)
A fast way to size up your competition
on YouTube – you’ll know within 12
seconds if you can take over the #1-#3 spot on
YouTube
On-page optimization tweaks that will jump your videos
to the top of YouTube faster than the latest Miley Cyrus
twerk footage
Also, I will show you a simple way to speed up this
keyword research & analysis process…
i Here’s what to do next…
Sit tight and wait for an email from me, k? I will let you
know when the next video is ready.
In the meantime… it looks like you’ve got a bit of homework to
do here!

Do some video target keyword research using the process and
tips I just outline for you above (you may need to re-read this
document as a quick refresher).
Then, once you have that final list of keywords handy…
I will show you what to do with them next in my upcoming
video.
At the end of this process, you will have a SUPER hot shortlist
of good potential low-competition, video target keywords that
you can use to get a steady flow of traffic, leads and buyers
from YouTube. Once I show you how to crosscheck these
keyword on YouTube, you’ll be all set.
And THAT’S when the free-traffic-fun really begins!
Talk to you soon!
Jason
