Internet and devices penetration summary
•Internet usage reaches the 39% of the worldwide population in 2013. ( 77% in developed and 31% in developing countries
respectively).
•Fixed broadband accounts the 10% of the worldwide internet usage in 2013 while mobile broadband accounts the 30%.
•Talking about developing countries fixed and mobile broadband accounts the 6% and 27% of the internet usage whereas that the
same figures in developed countries increase to 27% and 75%
•Europe and Americas are the regions with higher rates of penetration in terms of internet, fixed and mobile broadband. ( Japan,
South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia and NewZeland are also countries with high penetrations in line or even higher to Americas
and Europa´s
•In contrast to internet, mobile penetration in Americas regions is practically equal to total population while in Europe exceeds by
40%. Asia-Pacific and Middle east –Africa account penetration rates of 76% and 60% respectively, however in Japan, South Korea,
Singapore mobile penetration is over population whereas Australia accounts a rate in 2013 slightly lower to Population.
•Smartphones are expected to account the 80% of total mobiles by 2020
•3G and 4G will also represent the 80% .
•Data consumption will drive the increase of internet remarking the evolution of video and Consumer Web consumption as drivers of
this sharply increase trend. E.g Comsumer web will increase from 54 (TB per month) in 2010 to 1.084 in 2020 whereas that video
internet consumption will rocket from 85 to 3.333 within the same period
•Smartphones connections via Wi-Fi in in Northern European countries accounts rates around 72%, whereas in central and countries
such us SP the rate drops to 55%. In Japan, South Korea and Singapore rates are between 50 -60%. Mexico and Brazil accounts rates
of 74% and 66% respectively.
•In US market 42% of internet smartphone users connects internet by using wi-fi while the same rates in tablets increase to 94%
•Today’s consumer has a lot of digital devices. A majority of U.S. households now own high-definition televisions (HDTVs), Internet
connected computers and smartphones, and they spend an average of 60 hours a week consuming content across multiple screens.
