Goal Setting
Why Set Goals? Design the road, so you know where you are going Put the Law of Attraction to work For the person or company that you will become to achieve them
It Starts With a Vision Without a clear vision of what you are working towards, how will you know when you get it?
WHY? The most important Question: WHY? Are these Goals important
WHY? 2 Not just the WHAT , which provides the direction, but also the WHY . Without the WHY you won't be motivated to achieve the goal. Many focus on the HOW , but that comes later.

Performance Reviews Performance Reviews are a lot like Goal Setting. Goal Date Metrics Review
S.M.A.R.T. Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely
SPECIFIC Your goal needs to be stated in a way that is clearly defined. Saying, I should work more, is not a goal that will be kept. However, saying, I am going to work a total of 8 hours each day, is a goal that is much clearer and specific.
SPECIFIC 2 Be specific about what you want to accomplish Being specific gives you a target to aim for.
MEASURABLE Include a way to make sure you are on track. “ You cannot manage what you cannot measure.” – Peter Drucker A goal that says, I want to make more money, isn’t measurable. However, a goal that says, I want to earn $6000/month, is a far more measurable goal. It’s easy to see, at the end of the month, whether or not you achieved it.
ATTAINABLE Within Reach, but makes you Stretch. You might have to learn a new skill or move outside your comfort zone to achieve the goal. That’s Okay. It’s for what you will become. When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true.
ATTAINABLE 2 If you want to increase your income this year, it’s not realistic to say, I’m going to win the lottery this year, because you have no control over whether you will win the lottery or not. However you might say, I’m going to increase my sales efforts by cold calling 10 people each day, which is something you can take action on yourself.
REALISTIC To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. Goes back to Motivation. Goals that are actually achievable are much better and far more motivating. You’ll feel better about yourself when you do hit goals than if constantly shoot for them and fall short. Realistic goals should not be so easy that you hit them every single time but should not be so hard that you never reach them at all.
TIMELY Similar to the measurable attribute, your goal should have a timeframe for you to accomplish it in. Deadlines help people achieve their goals. If you anchor your goal to a time, you’ll be able to watch your progress.
The Key The key to a Goal is that it will guide you to where you want to be. It is Strategy. It is part of a Plan. Someone said that a goal is a wish that has been written down and dated. When you write it down and place a date on it (when you want to achieve it by), you are being Intentional. And your subconscious will begin to work on meeting that goal right away.
Benefit What is the Benefit of Accomplishing Each Goal? What will motivate the company to meet these goals? What’s the Why?
FOCUS “Goal-setting is powerful, partly because it provides focus. It shapes our dreams. It gives us the ability to hone in on the exact actions we need to perform to achieve everything we desire in life.” – Jim Rohn
Break It Down Develop smaller steps to accomplish the Goal – esp. for employees. Small steps promote small successes toward your goal.
SUPPORT Who can you rely on to check on you and encourage you? Select someone who won’t give up on you, dares to intervene, but is not an annoying nag. Tell supporters what you’re trying to do, what they shouldn’t do, and how they can help you.
Encouragement Consider rewarding yourself. Rewards can be especially important when you’re depriving yourself of a cherished habit.
Performance Goals can give employees control over their own jobs and, at the same time, give managers a tool for monitoring their employees’ performance.
Tips You will have challenges. You will have roadblocks. You can have excuses or success - but not both. Post the goals. View them regularly. Action Plan for each Goal.
Tips It requires the same amount of energy to be successful as it does to be unsuccessful. 99% of your assets are standing in your shoes. 80% of success is showing up
Changing Habits Established habits are integral parts of our lives—they are our friends—even in many cases our lovers. To overcome problem behaviors fully, we must replace them with a new healthier life style. Old patterns die hard. Intentional self-change cannot happen unless we give it a prominent place in our lives—at the top of the list.
There are 3 types of people Ones that make things happen Those that let it happen And the ones that don’t know what happened. Which one are you going to be?
Keith Rosen on Goals What would be unreasonable, yet extraordinary for you to achieve this year? (Dream BIG!) Create your goals in the following areas: (Don't feel you 'need' to have one in each category. Just the ones that are important to you; the ones you really, really, really want!) For yourself (personal goals, finances, relationships, well being, etc.) For others (family, friends, clients) In your career/business (skills, competencies, performance, productivity, milestones, etc.)
Keith Rosen on Goals What are you willing to do beyond what you're currently doing to achieve that? What are you willing to give up in order to achieve that? (Old beliefs, ineffective actions, ways of being, diversionary tactics, etc.) Who do you need to be to achieve this? More Keith @ www.profitbuilders.com
Final thoughts What do I want to finish? What do I want to change? What do I want to maintain? What do I want to stop doing? What do I need to do? What can I finally throw out? Gary Vee says What do you expect to happen? And what do you WANT to happen? It’s about Results, not Goals: What do I want to achieve? How do I get from where I am to where I want to be? Write down the "why" for each of them - then go to work! Goals are a way to ignite lasting change in yourself and others
