AGING STUDIES
Degree: Master of Science in Gerontology (MS)
Learn the skills necessary to help enhance the lives of older
adults and their families. This online program prepares
students with both basic theoretical knowledge and the
practical skills necessary to promote a positive and holistic
view of aging. Students can expect to interact with older
adults in their community, engage in a curriculum that
includes interactive media, and participate in discussions
with classmates and experts from various backgrounds and
locations around the world.
Total credit hours: 36
ANATOMICAL SCIENCES
Degree: Master of Science (MS)
Students studying anatomical science gain a deep under-
standing of human and mammalian structure and function at
both the gross and cellular levels. This degree is particularly
valuable for those attempting to qualify for professional pro-
grams such as medical or dental school. In addition, students
interested in teaching anatomy will find value from a degree
in anatomical sciences.
ANTHROPOLOGY
Grow your academic and technical skills in anthropology and
archaeology with this in-depth program. Students will attain
both theoretical and hands-on training through classroom, lab,
and field experiences, then conduct a unique scientific study
that culminates in a thesis project. This program is intended
for students planning to become a professional archaeologist
or go on to doctoral study. Two concentrations are available:
Archaeology and Bioarchaeology.
APPLIED SOCIOLOGY
Degree: Master of Arts (MA)
Gain the critical thinking and research skills needed in today’s
ever-changing world. This degree emphasizes the application of
social science research in solving contemporary social problems.
Students select one of three concentrations: Community
Leadership, an excellent foundation for nonprofit management;
Applied Research Evaluation, focusing on the qualitative and
quantitative skills needed for data analysis; and TeachingCollege
Sociology, preparing students as post-secondary instructors.
ART
Inspire your creativity with a degree that prepares students
for teaching, working as an artist, and future advancement
in an MFA program. Students develop the capacity to work
independently and make effective artistic judgments thanks
to the resources offered by the program—namely dedicated
studio space and a community of experienced practitioners. This
program emphasizes the development of student’s individual
stylistic approaches in one of three concentrations: Painting,
Drawing, and Ceramics.
Total credit hours: 30-36
ATHLETIC TRAINING
Strengthen your knowledge of athletic training with this fast-
paced program. Students gain hands-on clinical skills in multiple
clinical placements. The program covers five semesters of
clinical education both on and off campus at various clinical
sites, such as local high schools, colleges and universities,
outpatient clinics, and physician offices. AT classrooms feature
treatment tables for practicing injury assessments and treatment
modalities, and learning opportunities also take place in nursing
simulation labs and the full suite of UIndy athletic facilities.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Degree: Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Give your business skills a promotion with this MBA focused on
experience. The program is one of the area’s oldest, educating
professionals for nearly 40 years. On average, business faculty
members have 18 years of real-world experience before
teaching, and most have doctoral degrees as well. Class sizes
are small (around 20 students) so students can get the most
out of each course and network effectively with classmates.
Concentrations include Finance,GlobalSupplyChainManagement,
International Business, Marketing, Organizational Leadership, and
Data Analytics. Full-time day, part-time evening, Saturday, and
off-site schedule options are available.
PSYCHOLOGY
Gain the insights necessary to advance your career in psychology.
This degree provides a focused path to obtaining a master’s
level research position, receiving a solid foundation for entry
into a PhD program in psychology, or teaching dual credit at
the high-school level. Students will complete this master’s
degree through one of three tracks tailored to their psychology-
related careers interests: Forensics, Program Development and
Evaluation, or Research.
Total credit hours: Minimum of 38
MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING
Suited for students who are interested in becoming a professional
counselor and/or pursuing future doctoral study. Curriculum
includes foundational coursework in clinical psychology, elective
courses, and a 1,000-hour practicum experience. Completion of
this track results in eligibility for Indiana state licensure.
GRADUATE PROGRAMS

MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING WITH ADDICTIONS
Meets the same criteria as the MHC track but offers additional
preparation and licensure eligibility in addictions counseling.
CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION
UIndy’s Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction program
is designed to improve your pedagogy, teaching acumen,
assessment methodology, and technology integration in the
classroom. In addition, this program can be customized for high
school teachers interested in teaching dual credit, Advanced
Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes at
their school. Students can embed content in their studies (offered
through our English, History, Life Sciences, and Psychology
programs) and complete the degree in just 18 months. All CI
courses are taught through a hybrid model, which provides
flexibility and convenience for working professionals.
EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP
Secure your future in school leadership with iLEAD (Inspiring
Leadership in Education through Application and Dialogue).
Through interactive simulated experiences, this program
merges theory and practice in all areas of school leadership.
Students confront school practice problems and leadership
challenges, which prepares them to be “principal-ready”
professionals upon graduation. Each semester, students design
projects around authentic problems and present them to external
audiences of school leaders. Throughout the program, students
meet at least once a month with a mentor to receive coaching
on course problems and assignments, or guidance in situations
they may be facing in field experiences. Classes meet on campus
five Saturdays per semester, with online instruction in the
interim weeks. Experienced faculty and school practitioners
serve as course instructors in order to provide students with
contemporary leadership realities.
ENGLISH
Open your teaching possibilities! This MA has only one required
course, so students can design a program that matches their
career ambitions—in education teaching dual credit, writing,
publication, literary criticism, and more. Both thesis (creative
and literary) and non-thesis options are available depending
on individual goals. Classes meet during the day, evening, and
online, allowing students to work full time while attending
school. Graduates have a strong track record of acceptance to
reputable MFA and PhD programs.
HISTORY
Learn the significance of past events that can shape future
thinking. With a strong focus in U.S. history, students have the
freedom to explore various topics and classes while fulfilling
the degree requirements. In addition to core history courses,
students take electives from related disciplines to broaden their
experience. This program provides excellent preparation for a
doctoral degree, entering in politics or public service, teaching
dual credit at the high-school level, or simply for those with a
passion for history. Thesis and non-thesis options are available.
HUMAN BIOLOGY
Learn the intricacies of human biology with this renowned
program. No other biology master’s program in the nation
involves students in this level of forensic studies. Class sizes
are small and meet in UIndy’s Archeology Forensics Lab,
Molecular Anthropology Lab, and Human Gross Anatomy Lab.
Opportunities for fieldwork often begin in the first semester,
depending on a student’s area of specialization—ranging from
human variation to trauma analysis. A typical student is in
residence for three years.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Gain an insightful perspective on world affairs. As the only
program of its type in Indiana, it provides a unique education
in the relative political and economic power of states, the role
of regional and international organizations, and the existence
and resolution of international conflict. There are numerous
opportunities for international study thanks to UIndy’s
global partnerships, and Indianapolis offers many internship
opportunities with within the field of international relations.
Graduate students have gone on to get jobs in diverse areas
including government agencies, non-profit organizations,
multinational corporations, and in academia.
LIFE SCIENCES
Instructors at the high school level will achieve qualification to
teach advanced dual credit courses by completing the M.S. in
Life Sciences program. Core courses are offered over the course
of three summers, with an additional capstone courses allowing
teachers to earn credit for developing curricula. Completing the
master’s requires only three additional departmental electives.
NURSING
Degree: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Gain the specialized knowledge needed to launch your nursing
career forward. The MSN programs cover many aspects of
advancedpracticenursing,givingstudentsoptionsforspecializing
andadvancingtheircareer.Nomattertheconcentration,students
are prepared to practice independently and collaboratively to
improve the health of their patients, especially in underserved
and vulnerable populations. Students also participate in clinical
research to become prepared to assume leadership roles
after graduation. In each specialization, academic credits are
incorporated with clinical or practicum experience.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Degree: Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT)
Looking to start a career in occupational therapy? This program
is ideal for career-changers who already have a bachelor’s
degree from a regionally accredited institution and want to
continue working while attending one of the top-ranked OT
schoolsin the nation. Offered in a non-traditional format, classes
take place on campus one day per week, with accompanying
coursework to be completed online. An emphasis is placed on
evidence-based practice, compared to a focus on research and
advanced practice in the doctoral OT program.
PROFESSIONAL STUDIES
Degree: Master of Professional Studies (MPS)
Get ahead with a degree built for professionals. UIndy’s MPS
consists of accelerated 7.5-week courses offered in a hybrid
online/on-site format that will enable students to graduate in
five terms while still working full time at their current jobs. An
advisoryboardofcommunityprofessionalsoverseescoursework,
and project-based learning is emphasized in real-world situa-
tions. Human Resource Development Administration covers
the many aspects of human resource management, including
organizational and career development, human behavior, talent
development, benefit options, and records management. Real
Estate Development Construction Management will teach
students how to successfully manage development projects,
proactively shape your business environment, and analyze vari-
ablesthat contributetochallengesandnewgrowthopportunities.
PUBLIC HEALTH
Master of Public Health (MPH)
Acquire the professional knowledge and skills to enter the
high-growth field of public health. The MPH is a professional
degree program and combines academic preparation in current
public health knowledge with planned, community-based
projects embedded throughout the program, plus an intensive
professional practice experience. This unique curriculum, offered
in a predominantly online format, provides students the ability
to practice essential skills for improving population health
such as program planning, grant writing, culturally competent
communication, and advocacy.
SOCIAL WORK
Degree: Master of Social Work (MSW)
Looking to make a difference by helping people? An MSW could
be for you. This program builds on UIndy’s highly regarded
BSW program and features small classes, engaged faculty,
and significant opportunity for community outreach and
interdisciplinary collaboration with UIndy’s health sciences and
psychology programs. Starting fall 2016, a two-year program
will be for students with bachelor’s degrees other than a BSW
or for those who earned their BSW more than five years ago.
In June 2017, a one-year Advanced Standing program begins
for students who have earned their BSW in the last five years.
Students select a concentration in Health Wellness, Families
Children, or Mental Health/Addiction.
SPORT MANAGEMENT
Turn your passion for sports into a viable career in sports
management. Whether in or out of the classroom, students
are challenged with case studies, group discussions, and
professional development opportunities. Class topics address
relevant and current issues affecting the administration of
intercollegiate athletics programs, including compliance, ticket
office management, and media relations. Learning experiences
are further enhanced through career advice and interactions
with athletics personnel at the institutional level, conference

level, and the NCAA. Classes meet on weeknights or in a hybrid
format, allowing students to maintain employment throughout
the program.
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP DESIGN
Learn the leadership skills that can make a difference in today’s
world.Thisprogramofferseducationanddevelopmentinproblem
solving and how to conceptualize goals and communicate
them effectively. This degree focuses specifically on problem
analysis, developing problem-solving strategies, and guiding
an organization’s human resources. Studies culminate in a
capstone experience in which students work with an industry
leader to solve a critical problem facing an organization, explore
and make a contribution to industry practice, or complete a
field experience.
TEACHING
Thinking about changing careers and becoming a teacher?
Students with an undergraduate degree in a content area taught
in secondary schools can start a teaching career in less than
two years with this master’s program. It’s designed for busy,
career-changing adults who need to balance work, school,
and family obligations. In order to ensure students are fully
prepared for teaching, field experiences and student teaching
are incorporated from the first year. Cohort-based learning
allows students to share a common learning experience with
other cohort members, while at the same time learning from
each other’s diverse backgrounds.
TESOL
Considering a career teaching English in the US or overseas?
This program prepares students for employment as an English
as a Second Language teacher in adult settings in the US, as a
teaching aide in K-12 schools, or as a global teaching career in
a variety of settings, with learners of all ages. Courses combine
theoretical and practical applications related to various aspects
of language education. The program takes an inquiry-based
approach toward learning and instruction, offering opportunities
for individual focus and reflection, plus discussion with current
practitioners and guest speakers.
WOODROW WILSON TEACHING FELLOWSHIP
Have a science or math background and the desire to teach?
You could qualify for this fellowship designed for college seniors,
graduates, or career-changers with math or science degrees.
The intensive, full-time yearlong program includes a $32,000
stipend to help cover tuition and other expenses. The project-
based learning format increases retention of material through in-
depth projects related to the experiences of a teacher. Graduates
then incorporate this method in the classroom. The majority of
the program is completed over one school year and the summer
before and after.
WOODROW WILSON INDIANA TEACHING FELLOWSHIP
Degree: Master of Arts in Teaching (MA)
Future principals, superintendents or central office
administrators: this program is for you. This interdisciplinary
program between the School of Business and the School of
Education combines the best practices in business and education
leadership. Prospective fellows are nominated by their school
districts or charter authorizers to be considered for this highly
selective, 13-month, full-tuition fellowship. Districts or schools
become working partners with the University to address their
specific needs, and graduates receive three years of mentoring
provided by an executive coach.
DOCTORAL PROGRAMS
HEALTH SCIENCE
Post-Master’s Degree: Doctor of Health Science (DHSc)
Work interprofessionally with students from multiple health
related professions to gain advanced knowledge and skills to
positively impact health practices in today’s complex societies.
Graduates are prepared to serve as leaders, advocates,
educators, and scholars in health science. After completing
their coursework, students conduct a doctoral project. Interested
individuals must be licensed and/or have at least two years
experience in a health related field.
NURSING
Degree: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
Become an expert in the integration of nursing science and
clinical reasoning to design, implement, manage, and evaluate
complex patient, organizational, environmental, and system
issues. This post-master’s program equips students for the
highest level of nursing practice, leading quality improvement
and influencing healthcare policy at the system level, while
applying scientific research and evidence-based knowledge to
clinical practice. While courses are all online, each semester
begins with a two-day on-campus session to help maintain
connections with faculty and peers.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Degree: Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD)
Looking to start a practice in occupational therapy? In this
program, students evolve into innovative practitioners who are
critical thinkers in the development of scholarship, integrating
evidence and practice. Learning opportunities cultivate leaders
with high standards of professionalism in existing and emerging
practice areas. The program is taught in traditional classroom

setting, using a combination of lecture and hands-on lab
coursework. Students graduate after three years of academic
work which includes 24 weeks of fieldwork and a 16-week
advanced placement.
Total credit hours: Approximately 107
PSYCHOLOGY
Degree: Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
Following the practitioner-scholar model, this program
prepares graduates for general clinical practive in psychology.
The curriculum has been designed within the guidelines for
professional psychologists established by the American
Psychological Association (APA). Students complete at least
two years of clinical training, and yearlong placements allow
students to integrate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
in a single setting. There are three optional concentrations.
Psychology concentrations include:
Health Psychology Behavioral Medicine
Provides additional expertise in the psychological aspects of
various health-related problems. Courses cover such topics
as psychopharmacology, neuropsychological assessment, and
the evaluation and treatment of the behavioral components of
various medical conditions.
Childhood Adolescent Psychology
Offers advanced courses in the assessment, diagnosis, and
treatment of disorders of infancy, childhood, and adolescence.
Skills gained in this track provide the foundation for the design
and implementation of interventions directed at the assessment
and treatment of children, families, and other related systems.
Adult Psychopathology Psychotherapy
Builds advanced skills in the evaluation, diagnosis, and
treatment of adult problems. Students examine milder stress
and adjustment problems, as well as more severe forms of
psychopathology,astheygainadvancedskillsinpsychodiagnosis,
psychological assessment, and psychotherapy.
PHYSICAL THERAPY
Degree: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
Join the school of physical therapy that’s ranked in the top
25 percent of PT programs by U.S. News World Report —
the UIndy Krannert School of Physical Therapy. DPT offers a
traditional classroom and laboratory program that enables
students to pursue their doctoral degree in one of two tracks:
Research, in which a student participates in a faculty-designed
research project, or Professional Development, which allows
students to explore an area of practice or better understand
an interdisciplinary team approach to care. DPT students also
experience 39 weeks of full-time, supervised clinical practice.
