INTRODUCTION
A green computer or green IT system is
one where the entire process from design,
manufacture, use, and disposal involves
as little environmental impact as possible.
In other words, a green initiative is taken in
consideration of all facets of a computer‘s
life, from design to disposal.
WHAT IS GREEN COMPUTING
?
 Green computing is the practise of using
computer resources efficiently.
 Designing , manufacturing ,& disposing
computers , servers with no impact on
environment.
 To reduce the use of hazardous material ,
maximise energy efficiency during products
lifetime.
WHY GREEN COMPUTING??
 Increase in E-Waste
 Environment& climate change
 Increasing demand & cost of energy
 Industry & government regulations
 Limited resourses
 Global Warming
ENERGY COSTS
EXCEEDS
HARDWARE
COSTS
HISTORY
 One of the first manifestations of green
computing movement was the launch of
energy star program back in 1992.
 Another result of Green Computing was
the “ sleep mode ”function of computer
monitors.
HOW TO MAKE COMPUTER
GREEN??
 GREEN DESIGNING: Designing energy efficient &
eco-friendly computers , servers , printers ,
projectors etc.
 GREEN MANUFACTURING : Minimising waste
during the manufacturing of computers and other
components.
 GREEN USE : Minimising the electricity
consumption of computers and peripheral devices
and using them in an eco-friendly manner.
 GREEN DISPOSAL : Reconstructing or recycling
unwanted electronic equipment

RECENT IMPLEMENTATIONS
OF GREEN COMPUTING
BLACKLE :
 Blackle is a search engine site powered by
Google custom search
 Blackle came into being based on the concept that
when a computer screen is white , presenting an
empty word page or the google home page ,your
computer consumes 74 w.
 When a computer screen is black, it consumes
only 59w.
BIACKLE.
ZONBU COMPUTER
Zombu computer is a new very
energy efficient PC.It consumes just
1/3 of power of a typical light bulb .
The device owns the linux operating
system .
ACTION PLAN
 Using energy star qualified products help in
energy conservation.
 The Climate Savers Computing Initiative
(CSCI) catalogue can be used for choosing
green products.
 Organic light emitting diodes should be used
instead of regular monitors.
 Donating your old computers & other
peripherals can reduce the rate of
e-waste creation.
CONCLUSION
 So far ,consumers haven’t cared about ecological
impact when buying computers ,they have only
cared only about speed & price.
 New Green Materials are developed every year
& many toxic ones are already being replaced
by them .
 The features of Green Computing of tomorrow
would be like efficiency , manufacturing
materials , recyclability ,servers model, self
powering & other trend.
