Editor's Notes

  • #14: The Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) is dedicated to advancing sustainable development in the ICT sector. Since 2001, leading ICT companies, industry associations and non-governmental organizations have worked together under the GeSI charter to advance this goal. In 2008, GeSI underwent a formal transition to become a legal international non-profit organization with headquarters in Belgium. The organization successfully elected its second Board of Directors in July 2010 and is currently engaged in a strategic visioning and planning phase. On November 18, 2010, the Board convened in Washington DC to review and update the strategic vision and mission of the organization.
  • #15: GeSI Board members spent over an hour discussing the Vision the organization should seek to achieve. This Vision encompasses the idea that ICT as a sector will embrace the idea of acting responsibly to achieve sustainability, and also embraces the idea that ICT is and should be “part of the solution.”
  • #16: This new Mission statement has a four-year time horizon. It emphasizes that GeSI should continue to drive thought leadership and also quantifiable results in the area of ICT and sustainability. By delivering in these areas, GeSI will be the partner of choice for external players in the corporate, government and NGO sectors in areas of sustainability. Such success will naturally support a robust membership base that will include prestigious members from both the corporate and the non-corporate sectors.
  • #24: Today, I’d like to speak with you about….
  • #26: Whatisbeyondthese values? There’s a hugepotential for more efficient elements in all parts of the network. The research effort willbe immense. Only a collaboration between the main playerswilllead to achieving the goal.
