situation)

on?

glad/happy/pleased to
meet/see you (while meeting
someone forthe first time) Pleasure is mine, thank
you.
Long time no see/ It’sbeen a
while (when you haven’t
seen someone for long
time)
Yeah, same to you
Good to see you/nice to see
you (when youhaven’t seen
someone in a while)
Yeah,thanks.
Same to you , Thanks
Any other? Any other?
When greeting someone whose name you have forgotten,
you can say one of the following to acknowledge this.
 I’m sorry, but I’ve forgotten your name.
 My apologies. Can you tell me your name again?
 Can you please let me know your name again?
For people you know well, it’s common to use the word “guys” in
greeting. Example:
 Hi, guys!
 How are you guys doing?
 See you guys later.
Even though a guy means “a man”, when the word is said informally in
the plural, it can refer to people of either gender.
CULTURAL NOTE
In many English-speaking countries, it’s
common to shake hands when greeting someone.
You communicate a lot about yourself when you
shake hands. Try not to make it too strong or too
weak, too long or too quick. Shake hands firmly and
confidently.
Some greetings have taken on a different meaning from their literal
meaning, for example, it’s common for chinese people to greet each
other by saying, “have you eaten yet?” in chinese. This is a general
greeting which means, “how are you?” and does not necessarily refer to
whether or not a person actually has eaten lately.
Good bye/ Bye/ See you later/ See you soon. I must go now.
I (really) must be going. I must be off.
I’m afraid I’ve got to go.
It’s getting (very/ rather) late. I’ll miss my train.
They’re calling my flight.
I’ve got some things to prepare for … . I’ve got a lot to do this afternoon.
I want to get away before the traffic gets too bad. I’ve enjoyed talking to you.
It’s been (most) interesting talking to you.
It’s been a very useful meeting/ nice afternoon. Thanks for everything.
Thank you for (all) your help. Thank you for coming.
Have a good/ safe trip/ flight. - Thank you … (same to you).
Have a good weekend. - Same to you.
Good night.
