- 1. 1 st Grade Patterns New Pattern Project Summary: This newsletter will inform you about our pattern project that will be starting on July 11. This project will progress over four weeks. Every Friday we will be having field trips in our community to complete this project.
- 2. Overview of Pattern Questions Activities will be guided by the following questions: What is a pattern? What are the components of a pattern? Why do I need to be aware of patterns around me? What patterns can you see in our school and community?
- 3. Everyone’s Roles Student Roles Be ready to learn, listen, and observe. Teacher’s Roles Knowledge of patterns in the community that students will be observing. Parent’s Roles Encourage your child to look for patterns outside of school.
- 4. Benefits of Patterns Project Provide students will a real world experience to open their eyes to observe patterns they may not have noticed before. Provide students with an opportunity to learn outside the school. Ability to use new technology and programs.

- 6. Students take on the role as investigators as they identify cubes, rectangular prisms, cones, spheres, and cylinders in the classroom. Students take on the role as investigator as they describe and identify patterns in the environment outside the school. - 7. Project-Based Learning Benefits Allows students to work together in a collaborative environment by having a group structure. Allows students to critically think and problem solve by giving feedback throughout the project on each other. Allows students to help each other with their strengths and weaknesses by grouping students on their learning level.
