This document discusses configuring VLANs on Catalyst 2950 switches. It describes:
1) VLANs logically segment networks without regard to physical locations, allowing ports to belong to multiple VLANs and controlling broadcast/multicast traffic.
2) VLAN IDs can range from 1-1005 for normal VLANs and 1006-4094 for extended VLANs. The switch supports up to 64 VLANs and 64 spanning tree instances.
3) The management VLAN is used for communication with the switch and defaults to VLAN 1. Only one management VLAN can be active.
