Guided research
This document provides guidance on the research process. It outlines the key steps of research which include asking questions, finding information to answer those questions, summarizing the information, and sharing what was learned. The steps of research are defined as asking an initial question, searching for information to determine answers, asking more focused questions, searching for more information to solidify answers, verifying the accuracy of information, and using and sharing the information. Students are instructed to develop questions about topics they are researching based on book covers, headings, and pictures and to gather relevant information to those questions through reading while taking notes on interesting findings and additional questions.

- 7. GATHER INFORMATION • Keep in mind what you want to learn. • What would you want to tell others about your topic. • Take notes on what you find interesting as you read. • The notes may not answer your questions yet. • If another question occurs to you as you read write it down.
- 8. SHARE • With your elbow partner discuss what you have learned about your topic so far. • What other questions did you develop? • Write down any questions or information you develop during your discussion.
