HYBRID CARS Welcome to the world of advanced technological cars
INTRODUCTION Any vehicle is a hybrid when it combines two or more sources of power. Hybrid cars run off a rechargeable battery and gasoline. Hybrid engines are built smaller to accommodate the 99% of time when not going up hill or accelerating quickly. It uses the battery to provide extra acceleration power when needed. When the car is stopped, hybrid gasoline motors can shut off and run off their electric motor and battery.
INTRODUCTION Hybrid cars are often lighter and more aerodynamic; tires are often stiffer and inflated higher to reduce drag. Hybrid cars often recover braking energy and use it to charge the battery

MYTHS ABOUT HYBRID CARS You need a plug-in Hybrid batteries need to be replaced Hybrids are only fuel efficient Hybrids are expensive Hybrids are small and underpowered Only liberals buy hybrid Hybrids pose a threat to first responders Hybrids will solve all transportation, energy and environmental problems Hybrids are only a fad
ENVIRONMENT Driving Trends A massive increase in car use: more people driving more cars on longer trips
ENVIRONMENT Global Warming Experts say that rising tides in the South Pacific, as on Tuvula pictured above, are caused by global warming. Carbon dioxide from cars is a leading culprit. What effect could global warming have on the world?
ENVIRONMENT Health Effects Personal masks are becoming a common sight in urban areas with the worst air quality.
ENVIRONMENT Pollutants Every day, you are driving in and through—and contributing to—a lethal cocktail of air pollution.
ENVIRONMENT Other Impacts Hybrid or not, cars foul our land and water, and have a serious effect on wildlife, agriculture, and our built environment.
ENVIRONMENT Total Cycle Impact Your car is polluting before you even get behind the wheel.
