The 2010 Haiti earthquake was one of the deadliest natural disasters in modern history, killing over 230,000 people. The Haitian government lacked capacity for an effective response. The U.S. government coordinated a "whole of government" response involving multiple agencies. Over $1.1 billion was spent in the first 6 months, primarily through USAID and DOD. This independent review examines the internal U.S. coordination, partner coordination, and response effectiveness. It identifies successes and shortcomings to inform future disaster responses.
