  • #5: HealthTech was originally called Marketlink…we were a 15 year old company providing marketing and launch services for high technology startups like RIM Blackberry, Handspring/Palm, Barracuda and many more.We recognized the massive opportunity for technology in the exploding senior health care market and we created HealthTech to exploit this opportunity. We launched HealthTech with the relationship with Halo Monitoring and have added three partners since. We have several more companies planning to come on board in 2011. We have signed over 200 field agents and organizations and hope to attract more folks like yourselves over the next several quarters, focusing on aging-in-place technologies

  • #14: Lets talk about the solution…As a product, it’s a wireless device so whether it’s worn as a chest strap, belt clip or as an undergarment vest. This vest allows you to put the chest strap inside it for the people who don’t want to strap it on or clip it on (which is a very simple process) it can be worn as an undergarment vest. It locks right into it and touches the skin still so it has the ability to do the vitals, yet it doesn’t require that you strap it. This wireless device talks to our home gateway. The gateway comes in the box with the wireless device and so now you have a platform that is the communication medium. This is very similar to a wireless router and communicates wirelessly to this device. We have about a 300ft range between the device and the gateway. This varies by use and where it is. It is line of sight so at some point when you’re navigating around walls and so forth in a building or within a house, there are times when you’re going to have blind spots, so you need to verify that and when you become a sales agent we train you in how to check that if you’re involved in an install. The gateway speaks over the internet or through a phone line into the Halo health server, so you’ve got a phone line that plugs into the device but if they have internet, it can communicate through the internet. There is an advantage to the internet in that it communicates to the health server every five seconds, so it’s sending information and updating. The phone only communicates every six hours because it has to dial a phone call every time, so you don’t want to add that expense. It still queues up six hours worth of data and ships it but it does it every six hours. If somebody falls when they’re wearing it, it dials the phone because that’s an obvious emergency. The Halo health server is a cluster of servers that are at Halo that now take this information, interpret it and provide it to whoever needs to receive it. When you dial into the website to see what’s going on, you are dialing into the Halo health servers but when there is a problem, when there’s a fall or something for them to react, the health server then dials out based on protocol and instantly notifies the 24/7 emergency responder service (Safety Care) but it also notifies whoever else wants to be in the loop. It can be done by phone call, text message, if you have an iPhone it has an elegant fall-alert text messaging application that you download at the iTunes store and you can see what’s going on right from there. It also does it by e-mail and there is a personal web page that you can log into and see what’s going on at any given time.
  • #15: The gateway is a platform, a communication platform and isn’t only for the monitoring devices. The monitoring device is the Trojan horse that allows us to get into the home, it’s the device that the family wants and is going to extend the lives of seniors and save lives. Beyond that, there is a huge market called digital home health. Digital home health is about letting people get their health services at home. Doctors don’t make house calls anymore so we need to use technology to connect them through the internet, and that’s what this technology does. It allows seniors to stay at home and not have to spend their entire retirement in the Doctors office. This technology provides blood pressure devices, glucose meters, pulse meters, weight scales and so on. Halo doesn’t make these devices but this gateway is a communication medium for these to talk. We are a bluetooth device, so all these bluetooth devices can talk to us. Bluetooth is a very low range, low power, wireless protocol, so you usually have to be within 15 feet of the device. You may be familiar with bluetooth because today’s cell phones have cordless ear pieces that use bluetooth to communicate with the phone. They’re very low power so they don’t have to be charged often, but also have a very low range. You would use these devices close to the gateway but it would allow you to take you to do so from your own home while the doctor is in his office viewing your vitals at the same time. Digital home health is the future and is going to bring down the cost of healthcare. This is what insurance companies want and we have a gateway that is the platform to all of this going forward.
