The Hecatonchire project aims to transparently aggregate compute resources like memory, CPU, and storage across physical servers. It extends existing cloud and virtualization stacks to allow virtual machines and applications to access memory pooled from multiple servers. Current capabilities include remote memory access with low latency RDMA and memory mirroring for redundancy. Benchmarks show performance of Hecatonchire approaches that of using local memory alone. The open source project is developed by SAP Research to provide better scalability, economics, and performance than existing cloud offerings constrained by physical server sizes.
