Hobbies and freetime activities:
This isn’t the main part of the interview, in most cases they don’t even talk about this topic.
But when they do, they already know everything about you which is essential, the interview is
getting to its end, this part is just a small talk. The goal is to gather some plus information or
to make the interview a bit friendly.
How to use your hobbies:
If you're doing some sport it can refer to one of your skills or features which is important in
the view/in case of the position you want to get. Talk enthusiastically about your hobby and
tell what it improves and what is necessary for it.
For example:
- being part of a basketball team means you can work in a team
- being a long-distance runner means you're insistent, you take the things seriously and you're
able to achieve results or goals on your own
- taking ballet classes means you like the elaborated motions and you can concentrate on the
accurate implementation of the movements
- jewelry making assumes creativity
If you can’t mention hobbies like these then you can just skip them off your CV. Reading
books and watching films are fine but they don’t tell much about you. Serve your hobbies in
an appropriate way, for example: highlight what kind of books you like to read, which
directors, historical eras you like and admire and why. Always mention something specific,
don’t speak in general. All in all: your hobby should tell something important and positive
about you.
Another goal of the hobbies issue is that if the interviewer or manager has the same hobbies
or interest as you than you can be more sympathic to them.
