This document provides instructions for a homework assignment on methods of separating mixtures. Students are asked to read about mixtures and separation methods, then research and cite examples of separation processes used in recycling, water purification, and separating solids. The document describes several common separation methods: filtration separates solids from liquids using a porous barrier; decantation separates immiscible liquids or insoluble solids; distillation separates substances by boiling point; paper chromatography uses a mobile and stationary phase; and centrifugation uses centrifugal force to sediment compounds. The assignment is due on Wednesday, August 24th, 2011.
