- 2. Be Prepared come up with questions beforehand do some basic research ahead of time so you know who you’re talking to (if needed) be ready to ask ones on the spot too bring a writing utensil and notepad bring a phone to record schedule the meeting/interview in advance

Types of Questions You Should Ask things you don’t already know and aren’t on public record open ended questions don’t re-ask a question just because you didn’t get the answer you wanted or intended them to say do ask clarifying questions if you are confused start out with the easy stuff, then get into more personal or in depth questions if it seems appropriate
- 4. Etiquette make sure to reach out to them about why you want the interview and what subject you want to cover so they can prepare too introduce yourself + shake hands if appropriate always ask before you record someone most people don’t have a problem (just for you + easier than notes) come prepared! be polite (they are nice to give us their time) thank them afterward
- 5. What is off the record? 1st meaning- can’t pass on identity but can information 2nd meaning- either identity or information passed on not legally enforceable comes down to judgement call and maintaining trust (shouldn’t have too many issues) essentially we can publish what we want, but want to keep a good reputation and not anger the people who give us interviews

Let’s do a practice interview for a personal feature start out with introducing yourself, and asking about recording start out with a few of the following questions, then make up some of your own where did you grow up? what do you like to do outside of school? what subjects are you interested in? do you have any siblings? do you have any pets? what’s the hardest class you’ve ever taken and why? what’s your favorite meal? who is someone that inspires you and why?
