  • #4: Quickly Orient. What are users doing, how are users doing it, and why? Develop a map, but remember the map is not the territory. Visualize - vision is by far our most powerful sense. 50% of the brain's resources are dedicated to vision, 70% of the sense receptors in the human body reside in the retinas of our eyes. Index - At the heart of quantitative reasoning is a single question: Compared to what? Index everything, no data has meaning apart from its context. Anomalies - What's "normal" in this context has nothing to do with what's right or desirable, or with goals. What's normal is simply what usually is. Good or bad, it is how things ordinarily behave. Anomalies to the contrary are what sometimes occur, beyond the realm of normality for three possible reasons. 1) random variation, which we learn to ignore 2) error, which we strive to correct 3) unusual circumstances which we seek to understand and if possible coax into the reality of control. Anomalies invite us to embrace new opportunities, harmful anomalies incite us to do battle. Norms + Anomalites compile to form the context
  • #8: What questions do you have about your customers, how they use your product? Write a couple down. Now how long will it take you to answer those questions? Can you? 1,000’s of lines of SQL, Python or R. As you orient, visualize, index, and identify anomalies. You will have a new set of questions.
  • #9: You're working on Growth at Postmates. Who are your highest LTV users? Iphone users tend to be higher LTV, of those users the ones that purchase accessories unlocking non-food delivery. Could we leverage this insight?
  • #17: The curiosity gap is the space between what we know and what we want or even need to know. The curiosity gap is here and the incurious are being left behind. At Amplidutde we work with 1,000s of product teams. One thing that's clear time and time again -- the best product teams are curious. Product teams who are curious have a massive advantage over their competitors who are not. We've seen the curiosity revolution play out in education. The gap has widened drastically with the recent proliferation of internet access and reduction in friction. With frictionless curiosity teams, are constantly asking and answering questions. With each iteration asking better questions. Teams who embrace frictionless curiosity learn as fast as they ship… this is the edge.
