Learning Objectives This slide/lecture will show you how to create links between different pages in a wiki Linking one Wiki page to another is an important part of building a wiki site It allows you to direct the viewer to go in the direction you want for the wiki to achieve its purpose It allows the viewer to move around the wiki and back to the Table of Contents page as he/she wishes When the wiki is downloaded to a CD and viewed via an Internet browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla, it can be viewed like any other web site when the pages are linked
- 4. Typical Wiki Home Page with TOC items on the Bottom To put a page in Edit mode so you can enter text, etc., click on Edit To create a new page in your wiki, click on New Items are “hot-linked” to different pages in the wiki
- 5. History Page Name of page. When you create a new page in your wiki you have to give it a name

Three Steps in the link process 1 st Block the text you want to be the “hot-link” (Left click mouse and drag over the word) 2 nd click on the link icon and the window on the right will open 3 rd click on the “Link to an existing page” button & then highlight the “History” page (or any other page that you want to link). Then click Insert If you want to connect to an outside web page, click on the “Link to an external web site” and type in the url of that web page.

Do: Table of Contents (TOC) page to the second page you want your readers to see From the second page back to the TOC page Link the second page to the third page you want your readers to see Link the third page to both the second page and the TOC page
- 8. TOC Page of Your Wiki Click on Edit to make changes in the TOC to match your project Edit this “Vanilla” TOC to match your topic Click on New to open a new wiki page
- 9. New Wiki Page This is what a new wiki page looks like. Note that you have to give it a name. You can begin entering text, etc. When finished, click on Save below.
- 10. Page named First Ethnic Group To begin editing the page, click on Edit. You can type Home Page like below which is where you can put your link back to the home page.
- 11. This is the First Ethnic Group page when open for editing Remember to click on Save when you are done with the page.
- 12. Just Get Started – Don’t Worry Remember you can’t break anything If something doesn’t work out, just erase the text, photo, or even the page
