HR microservices
• HR Microservices is not a product: It is a way of organising and managing the components of an HR
software system.
• The HR Microservices business entity (launching soon) brings together the major contributors to
component-based HR systems and presents their products or services to the HR community.
• At the core of HR Microservices architecture is a STANDARD. It drives the design of a data platform,
around which everything flows and defines a catalog structure.
o Competitive Edge Technology first published the HR-CSAS Standard in 2005.
o HR Cloud Solutions provide a physical implementation of the Standard on the Force.com platform – the HCM Mashup
Builder.
o The Commercial Component Registry created their CATALOG of HR components based on the Standard.
o Competitive Edge Technology built their Data Management Platform, including the vital metadata, based on the HR-
CSAS.

HR Microservices bring together all of the products and services needed to develop HR component-based
solutions. The services are arranged into the 5 groups shown below:

1. Catalog Services
Component design and assembly cannot function without structure. The HR-CSAS document defines the
composition of a HR system from Function to Process and down to Data level.
The Human Resource Component Software
Application Standard was first published in
2005, just as web services, SOA, SOAP and REST
protocols were starting to emerge. The
structure is now used throughout HR
Microservices to define catalog services, code
and app store structure and the application
framework structure used in the HCM Mashup
Builder prototype.
The HCM Mashup Builder prototype is a
physical implementation of the Standard.

Catalog Services (Continued)
The HR-CSAS is a dynamic
document and is published in CET’s
wiki to enable client input and
comment.
Clients can build their own
component application by
following the details set out in the
Standard.
However, months of work is saved
by downloading and installing the
pre-built components on the
Force.com platform from HR Cloud
Solutions.

2. Application Services
HR Cloud Solutions offer clients a FREE data platform. The data platform
can act as:
• A prototype to develop a fully operational HR system
• An integration platform to store data coming from multiple sources.
• A unified database for HR reporting
• An extensible platform to a company’s current HR legacy system to provide
additional functionality
• A digital platform to provide mobile capability, social features and IoT (Internet of
Things) readiness

The HCM Mashup Builder prototype is a working HR system. It contains fields that can be edited and allows
data to be imported.
It is the cornerstone of Prototype Methodology to help clients define in detail their HR system requirements.
It is an UNMANAGED package built on the Force.com platform. That means it is fully controlled by the client to
do what they like with the application.
HR Cloud Solutions arrange to set up
Trial Version on the Force.com platform.
If the client decides to go ahead HR
Cloud Solutions simply transfer
ownership to the client and the client
enters into a contract with
Salesforce.com to decide versions,
licenses, etc.

• HR Cloud Solutions work with
clients to decide what fields that
wish to display at present. The
fields they do not want are
“dragged” off the screens. They
are not deleted and can be
“dragged “ back again later.
• HR Cloud Solutions also help
clients set up security profiles,
reports, mobile features, and
data views.
• If clients wish to “plug in”
another component, built on the
same platform, from another
supplier HR Cloud Solutions
arrange to download and install
the component.
3. Configuration Services
4. Metadata Services
Here is where a company defines how fields will be used and stores code information.
Companies may copy and paste code from the Code Store, or write their own. By
keeping metadata about components makes it simple if changes need to be made.
Competitive Edge Technology offer a Data Management Platform to clients to manage their metadata
5. Code Services
Here is where copy and paste code can be found to assist Citizen
Developers to build component solutions using a Low Code platform tool.
