Skandia   SE   is a Swedish insurance company that was started in  185 5. It has operations in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia. In 2003 the operations in North America, American Skandia, was acquired by Prudential Financial. It also operates an internet bank called Skandiabanken. Skandia   is one of the world's leading independent providers of solutions for long-term savings and investments. They offer products and services that cater for various financial needs and security.
Interest in and attention surrounding   Skandia’s work with the concept of   intellectual capital (IC) has risen significantly   in recent years, in Sweden as   well as globally . The concept of   IC and its application require a new   strategic leadership perspective, a new   taxonomy, and new management tools. (IC) Intellectual Capital company’s   intangible resources and can be   assessed as the difference between its market value and its book value,   expressed as adjusted   shareholders’   equity. model   Tobin’s Q, where IC is assessed as the   difference   between the market value   of a company and the replacement cost   of its fixed assets. IC can be  described as a :   the discounted   present value of the company’s excess profitability in comparison with its   business   competitors  in calculeted intengible value (CIV).
Intellectual Capital Components
Scandia Navigator Skandia is developing a  future-oriented   business planning mode l . Navigator   provides a   more balanced, overall picture of operations   – a balance between the past   (financial focus), the present (customer   focus, process focus and human focus),   and the future (renewal and development   focus).
Competence  -  f rom Skandia’s perspective,can be described more precisely   as knowledge, will and skill. Relationships  –  individual   actions or by sharing   knowledge   and networking with colleagues or   partners. Values   -  a conception, explicit or   implicit,distinctive of an individual or characteristic of a group, of the   desirable   which influences the selection from available modes, means and ends of actions. Culture  -  the combined sum of individual opinions, shared mindsets, values and norms. Leadership  –  the   bridge between human capital and structural capital as well as a part of both human capital and structural capital. Human Capital Components
Knowledge Sharing Goal:  I ncrease its intellectual capital   by sharing knowledge about the   company’s goals, methods and values   among its employees.  Programmes: Meet the Cabinet Question of the Week
Female Potential Project Goal:  (started in 1997) to bring more   women into business-related positions,   to obtain more female leaders, and to   actively eliminate obstacles to the realization   of the full development potential   of these women and add to the   collective value-creating process within   Skandia.
SFC is an embodiment   of the Renewal & Development   platform in the Skandia   Navigator.  By   continuously striving for renewal, related   to the company’s root system, future earnings capability is created. From this   emerges a company that is innovative, sustainable, exciting and attractive both   to work with and to invest in.  Achieving   this requires an approach that can   be called Intelligent Enterprising. This contains a number of dimensions,   including a global perspective, breaking   new ground, having a navigation   system that complements the bookkeeping,   having knowledge recipes   that can be globalized, and having a   strong values base for relationships.
