INTRODUCTION
The term was 1st introduced in a 1965 article by
TED NELSON
• This is an extension of Hypertext
• This contrasts with the broader term
Multimedia, which may include non-interactive
linear presentation
• It is related to the field of electronic literature*

WHAT IS HYPERMEDIA AND
ITS DEFINITION
Hypermedia is a computer-based information retrieval
system that enables a user to gain or provide access to texts,
audio, and video recordings, photographs, and computer
graphics related to a particular subject.
•Hypermedia is anything that allows the user to gather
information in a nonlinear way. This means that the user has
a choice as to what path he or she takes in order to gather
information. The user has the option of skipping certain items
or can go through every piece of information that is listed

MULTIMEDIA VS HYPERMEDIA
MULTIMEDIA
It is the use of computers or related
devices to present text ,audio ,video,
animation, interactive features, and still
images.
HYPERMEDIA
It is the use of text, data,
graphics, audio and video as
elements of an extended
hypertext system in which all
elements are linked, where the
content Is accessible via
hyperlinks
7. 7
EXAMPLE OF HYPERMEDIA
• World Wide Web (WWW) is the best example of hypermedia
applications. Through WWW it is possible to deliver hypertext,
graphics, animation and sound between different computer
environments. This is because world wide web have the following:
1. Links that view audio
2. Links that view images
3. Links that view videos
4. Hypertext links to other locations
8. 8
HYPERMEDIA INCLUDES
• This is a non-linear medium of information which
includes:
• Graphics
• Audio
• Video
• Plain text
• Hyperlinks

USES OF HYPERMEDIA IN EDUCATION
• • Hypermedia systems are used in educational environment. The active participation of
students is one of the major advantages of hypermedia systems.
• • Hypermedia enables students to explore and construct their own learning.
• • This method of learning breaks down the barriers of time and place, allowing
maximum flexibility for the learner. Students are provided a means to learn
individually and at their own speed. Students can repeat difficult concepts, or skip
already mastered skill areas
• •Also it is used for effective education. Hypermedia can help students achieve a wide
variety of goals in education for example:
• •Develop higher-order thinking skills
• •Develop group and interpersonal skills›Learn content in a given discipline
• •Develop technical skills

CHARACTERISTIC OF HYPERMEDI
A
Hypermedia has several characteristics, including:
InteractivityHypermedia is a highly interactive environment that allows users to
integrate different media types, such as text, audio, video, and graphics.
Non-linear organizationHypermedia is organized in a non-linear way, using a
network of links and nodes.
Relational links
Hypermedia uses relational links that are computer-navigated to connect
information together, rather than a linear structure.
Exploratory environmentsHypermedia is well-suited for exploratory
environments, where learners can explore their interests based on their own
background, perspective, and experience.
Network-like information structuresHypermedia environments have network-like
information structures, which require learners to use metacognitive skills.
Extension of hypertextHypermedia is an extension of hypertext, which is the use
of hyperlinks to connect text.
11. 11
CONCLUSION
hypermedia combines different types of media,
like text, images, and videos, with links that let
users explore information in their own way.
Unlike basic multimedia, hypermedia is
interactive and flexible, making it especially
useful in education by helping students learn in
a more engaging way. As technology grows,
hypermedia will become even more important
for learning and sharing information."
