3.SMIT Central Library
SMIT Central Library came into existence in the year 1999
at Majitar, Rangpo.
The library is open access system and following DDC(22nd
ed).
The library is having 9 staffs.
SMIT Library is having 32000 books ,180 journals,4235
project report, 1179 CD-ROMs,4000periodical back
volumes and 54 VDO.
Library is also having separate reference section consisting
of encyclopedia,directories,handbooks,atlas,monographs and
questions bank.
SMIT Library has 10 computers with high speed internet
connectivity.

4.Library Management Systems (LMS)
SMIT Central Library has installed a web based Library
Management Software Easylib(entire automation system for
libraries).Modules offered in easylib:

5.Benefits of Easylib
Ability to perform extensive search(OPAC) from various
terminals in LAN.
Built in security and logon mechanisms for the software.
Ability to build and manage our own Digital Library.
Bar Coding barcode compatibility of the entire library stock.
Multilingual data entry facility.

6.Networking Faclilities
SMIT College has a computer laboratory from which all the
computers in the College are connected LAN Through the
server computer.
This network will allow multiple accesses to e-resources,
networking or interconnectivity among the computer
terminals at different location in the college premises.
Library also provides OPAC services to students and
teachers located in different locations

The College authority should take care the development of
colleges, so that students may avail maximum opportunity of
education at a minimum cost.
The college libraries should get the separate building and it
must follow the library-building Plan of modern library.
 Proper and regular allotment of budget should be made to
the library by authority of the college.
A collection development policy should be formed for the
library for print and electronic formats.
The libraries policy should also be acquire learned
periodicals of nationals and international reput on subject
including for the entertainment.

Concrete policy to be introduced for total automation
programme for retrospective conversion Work.
 E-awareness programme for the students should be
organized at a regular interval.
 Library awareness programme should be conducted to
have maximum utilization of the library.
For the cost of the ICT infrastructure special grant may be
allotted by the funding authority.
The opinion and experience of librarian / asst. librarian
should be given due attention for taking any sorts of
decision related to the library development.

11.CONCLUSION
computer and telecommunication have greatly revolutionized the field
of library and information services.
SMIT library aims to provide the best possible services to its user in
terms of resources and other facilities in order to keep abreast with the
latest development in their respective field.
SMIT Central library has an ambitious plan to network all the libraries
of the associated institute of Manipal group by making a provision for
centralized access to all the resources.
 The advantage of this would be that a user can access the library
resources from any institute of the Group and can avail of the resources
by requesting for the same.
